On the negative side, some of the people that are from here seem to be unfriendly to newcomers and a little backward and closed minded in ways. Others I have talked to have thought this way also.
I think this is a good place to live being retired and staying to yourself or maybe starting your own business.
San Antonio and Austin are about 70 miles away if you like to shop or want any kind of entertainment or good places to eat. I hate to say this but hte restaurants here are not all that great and some of the business owners in town don't seem to care if they work or not.
Everybody's different and has different needs and wants, so depending on what you want, if you are a person between 16-60, Fredericksburg is probably not the place for you. I would try San Antonio or Austin.

I live in Central Texas and would love to move to the mountains in VA, but I don't know if that will become a reality or not. My grown children live in TX and I'm not sure I really want to live that far away from them. Also, I'm single, 58 years old, and am a little apprehensive about such a far away move.
I've been to the Hill Country and like it a lot more than I do where I am, but nevertheless, it's still TX and full of heat, tornadoes, illegals and the like. I liked REAL County but it just gets even hotter than many other counties in the Hill Country.
Because of the tourist attraction and tons of people visiting, I'm not considering Fredericksburg but wondered what you think of Harper or any other small towns in Gillespie County or anywhere in the Hill Country for that matter. I actually don't want a place in a town but some place on an acre or two away from traffic noise and the sound of hunters shooting guns. I'd like to hear only the sounds of nature.
I'm paying very close attention to crime, number of tornadoes a particular area has had, flooding concerns, ethnicity, property taxes, population, being as far away as possible from the hustle and bustle and of course, the potential Trans-Texas Corridor that may become a reality, comfort index level regarding humidity, etc.
I would love to be near the hills and even though they don't compare to the Appalachians, they'd be nice to view.
I've considered near Kerrville but it's growing way too fast as is Boerne.
I'm impressed by Fredericksburg's low crime rate even though it has so many people passing through.
Anyway, an thoughts you can add would be great.
Many thanks!!
