East Texas, bad idea for a single person?
Is living as a mid 20 year old in east texas a bad idea? I have no relatives and dont know anyone in the area. Kountze, Kirbyville for example. Whats the social life like in east texas?
Thanks if you can help!

I am from Chicago and Live in Fort Collins Colorado right now, so it would be a pretty big change for me. There are just some jobs with the state of texas that look appealing. I am really worried about the single life out there though.

I am sure it is dismal. If you want single life and small town check out college station or bryan texas. 25% of the town is college kids. I am sure all the other small towns are dying. Only people left are old people who don't want to move or people who need to live there for work.

Well, I too, work for the State of Texas. As you know the state pays the same pay rate statewide, no matter the cost of living, so, your pay rate would be considered high for your area, as say compared to lets say Austin, so your money may "go" farther. I would be surprised if any churches have a large single groups, if you wanted to do that. Tyler (200 miles north), at least has that, of course a few bars, clubs, but maybe that's not what you want. Most young people here run on off to Dallas if they need to "party hardy" You didn't say. If you want a really small town like those two towns, maybe just not much for you. How about the same type state job in a larger city?

You could get by living in those places I think since Houston is just a hop, skip, & a jump away.
I'm currently living in Tyler, but I drive to Dallas quite often which is only 1 1/2 hours away to visit my gf & for business.

I dont know much about kountze or kirbyville except they are very small. What city would you work in? Houston is less than 2hrs from Beaumont. Beaumont isnt to bad but not a ton of night life. There are lots of communities around here. If you let us know where you'll be working we can give you more of an idea.
Isnt Dallas like 4hrs from Kountz?

Thanks for the advice guys!
Its with the Texas Forest Service so alot of jobs are restricted to low pop. areas. I will just wait till a position in Dallas, Houston, Austin, or S.A. opens up. Or something near those cities.

Just remember their are a lot of small towns right outside the bigger cities. say you want a job in Baytown. well, thats a hop skip and a jump to everything in Houston. I am still fairly new here so dont know right off the areas outside Dallas.
