Houston VS Toronto (San Antonio, Katy, Howe: skyscrapers, job, corporate)

Though Toronto is the leader of Canada...I wonder if Houston can compare with it in terms of international influence. I was in Toronto this past summer and really enjoyed the city. From my understanding the GDP of both areas are quite similar...and both cities have very nice skylines. both cities have comparable city proper (Hou-2.3 mil; Tor-2.5 mil) and comparable metros (Hou-5.6 mil;Tor-5.5 mil). How do you think they compare?

Houston's hotter and much more Hispanic. I imagine Toronto's got some kind of subway system. Toronto's probably more like Chicago.

Holy cow....this is gonna be a tough one because, um, one is in Canada and one is in America. Canada tends to have so many immigrants in their large coastalish cities because of their very lenient citizenship requirements. I guess people are willing to work harder to become Americans . I've lived in both but would never consider living permanently outside the US.

Besides that, the second biggest thing would be the weather. Is that a big concern to you? I'd much rather deal with heat than with extreme cold/snow. The latter is just so much more dangerous and annoying to deal with when you have kids . But of course, if you can find a great job in one, then that's the better one for you!

I don't think there is any comparison. They might be about the same size in population, but Toronto is by far a more urban city than Houston. A better comparison might be Seattle, San Francisco, Boston, or Philly.

What you want to see is what is the sq/mileage of Toronto? Houston is 599-601 sq/miles (depending on where you read it) for official city limits. I don't know the total for the "metro area" and unincorporated parts of the area as it is immense. I imagine Houston will annex a few more sq/miles in the coming years, too.

BTW, I love Texas and if I was to recommend to a non-Texan a place to move, I'd have to suggest you look at San Antonio. It's a much more pleasant city. I live in Houston only because I have family living here. Otherwise, I'd look at acreage in central or northeast Texas and stay away from the big dirty cities.

But if you're a city fella... you might like Houston.

Better hockey in Toronto.

Better football in Houston, although both cities have the same number of Super Bowl championships.

Otherwise they are the exact same city. Oh, and the huge difference in climate. And Eastern Canadian vs Texas culture.

I don't know much of anything about Toronto... However from what I've seen in pictures and heard, some of our freeways (like the 59 SW and the I-10 Katy) here may remind you of the massive 401.

Does it help to know French in Toronto? If you're the kind who likes to explore, it definitely helps to know Spanish here in Houston.

I would never ever live in Toronto (mostly because I oppose Socialism) but I just wanted to get opinions on both cities importance in the world. Ive been to Toronto...and its not even close to Chicago in terms of the skyline..but the city is very well planned. Even though Toronto is known to be more urban we have taller skyscrapers than them down in Houston. Toronto or Houston...which city would you find more intriguing if you were from another continent? Which city has the bigger punch?
