One thing I really like about Texas is that you can choose from so many different environments to live in. If you want deserts, go west. If you want forests, go east. If you want hills, head down to the hill country. If you want the ocean, we've got plenty of coastline. But most of all, I like the people here in Texas. I have traveled to a lot of other states over the years and Texas has the friendliest people of any place that I have ever been to. I'm very proud to be a Texan!

Dallas has just the environment that I am looking for in a city. Everytime I visit, I just visualize what could become of my future and it gets me very excited. It is a feeling that I cannot describe. Oklahoma has served me well throughout my whole life and I am ready for a big change after graduating from College. Recession or not, Texas is in my future plans!

I just wanted to drop in and tell everyone about a conversation I had this morning with a fellow displaced Texan: a friend of mine from church is from Houston and we were chatting about how even with the housing crash here, it's still painful to look at Texas real estate and realize what we're missing out on, and how there's no way to really explain to someone who doesn't know Texas why she's so hard to be away from, and how we wish we were raising our kids there...and....and...we both started getting choked up! I mean, we were laughing about how our experiences and perceptions are so similar and were really enjoying our chat, and then all of a sudden we were both fighting back tears, right there outside of church. When someone really loves Texas, there's just nowhere else that compares!

Can't wait to start a family there and have little Texans running around
Hello AKgirlinCA, and thanks for the input! Good luck with the move to Texas, I hope it becomes a great new home for you and that you soon have those little Texans - sounds perfect!

Hello again everyone! Firstly, how great is it to have autotech back!? Welcome back buddy, we really missed you - and Im SOOOO relieved that you're okay! I was really worried about you, as were the rest!

Secondly, Im so thrilled that there is some renewed enthusiasm for the thread, thank you everybody for your input. Dweej, Im glad you had a fab time in SA - I can't wait til the next time I can go back, hopefully in October - I'll definitely be in Austin for a few days and will probably get to SA and Houston for a few days too, hopefully Dallas too, but it all depends on the work load... Either way, Im so looking forward to being back in Texas!!! Thanks for the story too about fighting back the tears outside of church. It's amazing that Texas has that effect on people (especially those of us o this thread) - I can't really imagine many people crying over missing other states so much... a few maybe.

Traditional Texan - your post has made me feel extremely hungry! It's 13.29 here in Spain, and my mouth is watering just thinking about all of those foods you mentioned.

TTDave - it's the kind of Texan pride demonstrated by you that is one of the reasons I love Texas so much. It's great to see it on the thread! That goes for you too case44.

Anyway, I best do some work, or I'll never get to Texas! Love to all of you, great to be back on track with the thread, thanks again for all of your inputs!

I love living in Texas, it is hard for me to put into words exactly why, but I cannot think of anywhere else I would rather be.

Aprilskye is on a distinguished road
Gosh I miss it so much. My Husband and I have been away for 5 years now. He is military so we spent 2 years in Utah, and 3 now in Germany. We are on our way to San Antonio in August and I can't wait!

Things I miss most about Texas

Our family (mine in Texarkana, his in Queen City)
Thunderstorms (we rarely get them in Germany)
Humidity
Not being made fun of for our accents
Friendly people, complete strangers making conversation in the checkout
Texas football
Blue Bell Ice cream
Real Bar-b-que (Big Jakes in Texarkana yum)
Tex-mex
Yes sir No sir, yes ma'am, no ma'am
"Respect your elders" has not disappeared from Texas
Pride in the general way of life, school and family
"give you the shirt off my back" really means something here

I don't know how to describe why I love it so much, I just do.
