And even with all that land, Houston is the densest of the four. Imagine that.

Houston's not that much denser than Dallas, a couple hundred ppsm.

I guess you could say Austin is over hyped, I have not been down to Houston, but I have been to Dallas. The surrounding area around Austin is very nice and a lot of things to do. Dallas is just way too crowded, as I gather Houston is. So, maybe it's over hyped, but Austin is my preferred locale over the other two choices-however, San Antonio, now there is a great place to visit.

Imagine though what the spread would be if Houston was to de-annex some of the outlying stuff outside Beltway 8. You'd probably see that figure go up to another couple hundred at least.

Not that it really matters, yet it's an interesting observation.

So what. Density numbers when comparing cities like Houston vs Dallas is of minor significance.

LA has greater density per square mile than NYC and double the density of DC. It's called DPS:densely packed sprawl.

Imagine that.

No, the City of LA is not denser than NYC or DC. Where did you get that from?

Yes.

From a 2005 Washington Post article. I can't imagine LA's density decreasing from then to today.

" The urbanized area in and around Los Angeles has become the most densely populated place in the continental United States, according to the Census Bureau. Its density is 25 percent higher than that of New York, twice that of Washington and four times that of Atlanta, as measured by residents per square mile of urban land. "

Oh, no. Not the D word again... and I don't mean Dallas.

Seriously, I'm amazed at how much you guys can talk about density. Amazed, I say.

So, back on topic, please, and save your density debates for City vs. City. Likewise, remember we're not talking about LA, NYC, Denver, or Atlanta. We're talking about which Texas city is most over-hyped - Dallas, Austin, or Houston.

Thanks for playing.

If I had a time machine, it would be cool to see what Austin was like in years past...
