Default Places to invest in Texas now

Real estate is my hobby, and although I've done well in it, I am not a broker and not trying to sell ....

Some of the small towns - say around Austin have nice old buildings in courthouse squares that are really cheap now - Lockhart has 3-4 for sale and the town is growing.

Rockport, TX a small coastal town near Corpus Christi, because of the economy and the fact that many people own (and now are forced to sell) land or 2nd homes there has some bargains. Its friendly with good schools and one of the most scenic places in the state -especially if you like birds, ocean, fishing or wildlife. Despite the downturn - people continue to move to Rockport- and a big new waterpark that's being developed will only add to the attraction.

Ingleside also near Corpus is losing its Naval Base- there will be lots of land and houses but one day it will recover - it may take a while but there are bargains there too.

El Paso may not be hurt as much as other places in a recession, however prices have not gone down to make it attractive.

Georgetown has an oversupply of houses and prices are going down -same with Round Rock.

The old jail in Belton is for sale - its been made into a residence - not bad.
