Ummmm, maybe all of those billions and billions of dollars we wasted in Iraq could have been put to a more useful purpose??? Maybe, just maybe we could save a few dollars by not paying $300 for a toilet seat or $150 for a bolt. I'm sure that if they could curb the wasteful spending, they would find a lot of ways to pay for a lot of things. We need to start learning how to take care of our own, first and foremost. I find it disgraceful that our wounded come home and can't get the top care that they need. They should have the very best of the best. We need to bring our money home and take care of our own.

I am neither a Republican nor Democrat. I am a Conservative (of the old States Right Jeffersonian variety), and neither Party much, anymore, reflects these principles. Only difference is one is more honest about being intent on bringing about a total welfare state. The other is the Stupid Party.

With that said though, I have NEVER been so scared over the outcome of a presidential election as I am this one. God help us if the outcome is what I fear this one is going to be...
Like TexReb, I too have avoided this thread because it's a HOT topic. This upcoming election scares the daylights out of me. Who do you vote for? I want to vote "None of the above." Seriously.

McCain who is scary old and not the brightest lightbulb in the pack. If his choice of a running mate are any indication of the choice he will make as our POTUS then GOD HELP US ALL! Sarah Palin is a complete idiot. I'm a registered Republican, but it certainly doesn't mean I am going to vote that way. If McCain would have chosen a better running mate, I would lean more towards him. I can NOT see Palin running our country should something happen to McCain while in office. (How old is he anyways?)

Then there's Obama....He scares me. His affiliations with questionable people are not a mute issue. Now the one when he was only 8 yrs old can be looked over, but what about the affiliations he has had as an adult?

Our country is in for a ride for the next 4 years...May God protect us.

So how come you mention my lower case writing but totally skim over the post on this thread which had typos, poor grammar, and made absolutely no sense?

IMO, this forum, although casual, is not a chat room. What you type can end up on the internet. To me informal writing is when you write a letter to someone. Anyway, I was trying to use a little humor to make a point. If you don't agree, or it's not important, then continue on.

Michael Moore is a bit on the nutty side too...but you can't overlook
some of the valid points in his films...like the Bush's (the old one and
the one now) affiliation with the Saudies...sadly, most people who
end up in charge of this country are not in it to help or serve the
American people...it's a race for the almighty dollar...like I said...I
honestly, just see McCain as another four years continuation of the
crap we have had to deal with while Bush has been lining his pocket...

The trick is to realize that no one person or party has all the answers and that everyone running for office or making political movies or something similar has their own agenda and go from there in making your own decisions.

I suppose I'll be voting for Obama. I'm not one of these Obamaholics (or whatever new phrase is these days) who thinks he's some amazing man that's gonna make everything right, but there's no way I'd vote for the other side.

If he gets in a screws up, he'll be gone if 4 years. Same for McCain. I don't get all this fear (especially after 8 year of Bush) that some people are feeling, be it towards Obama or McCain. Surely that many folks can't be falling for these scary bogeyman tactics. I personally find them insulting.

Don't get me wrong. I am no fan of GW, and I was never a supporter of the war in Iraq, so to speak.

What I was saying earlier, in essence, was that "taking care of our own" (and I agree with the basic sentiment) can also have very scary implications. That is to say, if it embraces a welfare state. The same waste will apply just as surely as will the $150 screwdrivers for the Pentagon.

I don't want us, as a nation, to buy into the notion the attitude that we need to, necessarily "take care of our own" anyway. Sure, I agree with the idea of a safety-net, absolutely. But I want a country like what our Founding Fathers wanted to establish...and the one which existed up until the last several decades. To wit, that "taking care of our own" meant NOT the government doing it, but that we, the people, as in individuals and kinfolk, local community and church...took care of our own...

What lousy choices we have.
You said it, girl.

And to whomever said that Obama has read "the whole Federalist papers" I would like to say....um......so have I (and piles and piles of other properly educated folk have as well), and while I am a firm believer in those principles, just because someone else (BHO) has read them doesn't mean they adhere to them....
