Getting back to the original question posed at the beginning of the thread, yes, I will go out and vote for Obama, even though the state will almost certainly go for McCain.

if we had taken the money spent on the war in Iraq up to this point--we would have made America a much stronger country internally--college could be affordable, people could have decent health care, our economy would NOT be in the situation it is now ... but the blind ambition of one particular group managed to sway much of public opinon with a premise NOT based in fact...and that headstrong refusal to consider any other point of view also brought us unregulated greed on the financial front...

You can apply that thought process to any point in US politics since 1960. Coulda coulda coulda... that's all complainers have to say. Government doesn't need to be in the business of life in america. Government needs to be about the business of securing the safety of americans and ensuring a working infrastructure. Nothing more.
If you want health care and education then pursue any one of the many options available to a U.S. citizen. If you don't like the way your health care or education works, then petition the state to make changes.

AMEN to that one. That is how it was envisioned by the framers.

why bother? I'm so disgusted with both candidates that I won't bother to go the polls during my first presidential race I'll be eligible to vote in. Secession seems to be the only viable option if we want to return to a system of self government and liberty. Even then, we'll need to clear house of all of the special interest running our state government.

Why don't you at least vote for a third party candidate? Or even write-in? Heck, you've got the opportunity. Why waste your disgust by doing nothing? Add your voice to the masses who will vote for neither of the big-party candidates!

I voted Monday for Obama. I know that the vote will not count since Texas will go for McCain. But, I also voted for Democrats, Republicans, and one Independent in local and state races. Of course those votes will count!

i work for the military-and i can honestly say that 100% of the folks i talk to every day are pro-McCain, and are bracing themselves for this upcoming election. Texas is a state with many LARGE military installations and a VERY high number of military retirees, as Texas does not tax military retirement, and plus the proximity to health services at so many bases/posts, and good VA's. Texas will carry McCain and i hope the rest of the country has enough sense to do so too.
