Default Killeen and the TX economy! What wil happen?

If Obama is elected POTUS, and we actually pull out of Iraq, do you think there will be alot of cut backs in the defense budget? If so, what does this mean for the Killeen economy and other cities that are so heavily dependant on the military. What does it mean for TX?

my job depends on the defense budget. all i can do is pray that there are enough intelligent people in the US to look beyond the "charisma" and "looks" and "good speaker" attributes of Obama, and realize that McCain is the best for our country.

The previous poster stated she hoped there's enough intelligent people out there to put McCain in office. Since I'm voting for Obama, I guess I'm considered the opposite of intelligent.

I should have put a on that since I was half joking though.

Well, let's see... the question to ask is what mission does Ft. Hood primarily serve and which units will call the installation home? That is far more productive than fear-mongering and speculating on a future outcome that you don't know about. I see that the 1st Cav and 4th ID are based there. I also know that they have armor training and exercise facilities that are top-notch. While the 4th seems to be moving their HQ to Colorado, it looks like the 3rd Armored Cav is due to move in when the 4th leaves - this bodes well for Ft. Hood and Killeen. Plus, your being in a southern conservative state also suggests that Ft. Hood is safe. There was a noticable trend in the 20th century of moving the military, in general, from north to south.

If you've seen the national debt and budget defecit any time lately, you'll notice that "we" (the U.S. government) is overspending. If you insist on not having your taxes raised, then you'll have to spend less. I will lastly point out that the BRAC process, which is what a town like Killeen should really worry about, has happened more times under defense "friendly" administrations (1989, 1991, and 2005) than under "liberal" administrations (1993 and 1995). In all, over 350 installations have been closed since the first BRAC in 1989.

Again, the question to ask is: "what is the nature of Ft. Hood and how might Ft. Hood benefit from BRAC and budget realignments and adjustments?"

I think any way you slice it, Ft. Hood is pretty safe and would likely only benefit from future actions (at someone else's expense of course). Units from Ft. Hood have been aggressively deployed in nearly every conflict and action since 1990.

Of course, I don't have a crystal ball and I'm sure others have greater expertise that I do, but my guess is that Ft. Hood is about as "safe" as any base could be with respect to realignments and budget cuts.

Biden to Supporters: "Gird Your Loins", For the Next President "It's Like Cleaning Augean Stables"

October 20, 2008 7:35 AM

Quote:
ABC News' Matthew Jaffe Reports: Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., on Sunday guaranteed that if elected, Sen. Barack Obama., D-Ill., will be tested by an international crisis within his first six months in power and he will need supporters to stand by him as he makes tough, and possibly unpopular, decisions.
Quote:
"There are gonna be a lot of you who want to go, 'Whoa, wait a minute, yo, whoa, whoa, I don't know about that decision'," Biden continued. "Because if you think the decision is sound when they're made, which I believe you will when they're made, they're not likely to be as popular as they are sound. Because if they're popular, they're probably not sound."
No. I don't think so. Obama as President will NOT have my support. I'd suggest if you can get out of the Army and defense contracts, do so now or as quickly as possible. Biden is just preparing us, and the military, for the screwing of the U.S.

I'll be the first in line to shout 'IMPEACH NOW"

I heard about this on the news. What are they doing? Planning a training exercize for him to prove his experience or abilities or something? Is Joe Biden psychic? If he knows this and is telling or warning people about this, then he needs to be investigated about what he knows

largest military installation in the world. probably least likely to be subject to BRAC hit list. plus large wounded warrior unit, with reasonable proximity to BAMC (Brooke Army Medical Center) in San Antonio for more intensive medical needs, and of course Ft Hood's wonderful hospital-where i work.
