Default I need a topic for a paper (state and local government problem or issue)

I am going to write a paper about a state or local government problem or issue. I have been looking through the various newspaper websites and I need help picking a problem. Highway building seems to be a pretty big issue.

I would appreciate any help (links included) for picking an issue.

Assuming this is for school?

There is one going on right now in the State of Texas with the way GPA's are calculated. Right now IB, AP and honors classes are weighted. The state wants ALL classes to get the same point towards the students GPA. Since this one is a little less "on the front page" of every news media outlet but has made some news it is not as "in your face" as all of the highway issues. The GPA issue would give you some good pro's and con's. I can find some links if you need it and might be interested in seeing if this would be a worthwhile topic.

Highway construction is a big issue in Texas currently. There are a few topics that could be addressed. Two that I can think of are the budget issues that TXDOT faces and the pros/cons of the Trans-Texas Corridor.

Yeah, its for school/college. Thanks for the idea. I can easily find some links now that you've given me an idea.

Trans-Texas Corridor might be the best one, there isn't a shortage of coverage with that!

You can do a paper on TXDOT's efforts to put toll roads in San Antonio (currently no toll roads in SA). Here are some web sites:
