SMU has their own football stadium. It is used for the Cotton Bowl game that takes place in January, and other football games during the Fall. There have been concerts there in the past as well.

Once upon a time it was used for the Texas Jam. Wish they would bring those back . They were concerts that went for an entire day w/ AWESOME acts. Mostly Rock. All of the artists that performed were major groups or individuals. LOTS OF FUN!
It was also used for UIL Band contests in the fall during Marching season. They still do that around here but I'm not sure where they do it now. I can say I have marched at the Cotton Bowl
The Dallas Cowboys used to play there long before Texas Stadium. Yes, The Cotton Bowl is held there for college football playoffs. During the State Fair there is the annual Prarie View vs. Grambling football game and Texas/ou. There have been other games that go on there as well. I'm trying to think if it is used at all for high school football playoffs????

Nopw with the upgrade their will be more high school playoff games and regular games in the Cotton Bowl especially DISD schools and Bi-District playoff games I see a Dallas Carter vs Skyline game or a big playoff game like John Tyler vs Waco perfect location

John Shaft is correct. Growers from the neighboring counties dump their cotton crops there and get a receipt based on weight.
My favorite part of the Cotton Bowl celebration is the crowning of the Cotton Bowl Queen who rather than being picked on popularity, actually is involved in a competition with 45 other SMU coeds. They are given needle and thread and are then required to wade through the cotton in the buff- grabbing as much as they can and making the best outfit possible. From 1968-79 they actually filmed the girls after they were dressed in their cotton, however outfits falling apart on stage signaled the demise of this part of the program. In1979 both the winner and 3rd runner-up were umm exposed in the best/ um worst way and thus it was the final year.

Just so you know, Trainwreck, SMU plays home games at Ford Stadium on the SMU campus.
As for the Cotton Bowl, besides high school football playoffs and the annual New Year's classic, I can't really think of much else.

It was here, not the Janet Jackson Super Bowl, where the term "wardrobe malfunction" actually was coined. Look up P.F. Goodeboddy's 1981 book, "A History of SMU Coeds and the Texas Silicone Shortage" for an excellent analysis (although the book is often too academic in approach for what you'd like as a study of coeds).

There are also a lot of marching band contests for high school, college, and competition marching.
