I just looked at this now. I used to live on Galveston Island back in 1994. It's very sad to see pics of the total destruction. Mother Nature is a force not to be reckoned with.

I still have a hard time understanding why people stayed on the island when they were warned, "This is not the storm to be messing with"... I understand how people are attached to their "stuff" and their homes, but it's bricks and wood. I would think that your life would be your top priority. God knows, I am so attached to my "stuff" but if my life were in danger, I would leave for safer ground.

Thanks for sharing the pics!

I couldn't get past the MS Virtual Earth warning sign at the start. But I haven't been to the beach since the Yanks flooded in back in the 80's. Destruction everywhere.

We're still seeing photos & videos of Katrina 3 years after too. Whats your point?

Great thread & pics Muhnay. Galveston will return stronger than ever no doubt.

It is probably important to note that Crystal Beach is on Bolivar. Which is not Galveston island.

Galveston was a major, major city before the storm of 1900. Many of the structures that survived that storm have survived this one as well. Galveston also has the restaurants, nightlife, and is just much more developed than Bolivar.

Galveston also has the seawall as partial protection from storm surge. Bolivar has no such thing.

Though Galveston had plenty of damage, it wasn't wiped off the map like Crystal Beach and other areas of Bolivar. It is still mostly intact.

Yes but there are two links.. so your point is mute. Yes the first link is of CRYSTAL beach, not Galveston, and it does show in great detail, the best of the worst IKE did. My Favorite in that series is the Light House.

The next link shows images of all over Texas, and even some of Oklahoma, or Soon to be know as North Texas, or Little Texas. heh heh.. But really some of the images of the downtown buildings and land scapes is awesome! Well I think so anyways..

I have emailed the guy and asked that he come and do his thing in El Paso TX, I think it would be very interesting to see ASARCO, and Downtown and the border area in his style. What an Eye opener that will be.

Thank you for the great pictures, I had not seen those before.
