Default Why Is Ignorance So Rampant in Texas?

UT poll shows that 23% of people in Texas think that Obama is a Muslim, as compared to roughly 5-10% of Americans nationally who believe this nonsense.
UT poll shows McCain, Cornyn with comfortable margins | Front page | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

Apart from all the politics (that belongs in another area of this website), why is this happening?

Is it ignorance?
Poor education?
Bigotry?
Racism?
Paranoia?
Redneck sensibilities (or lack-there-of)?

What is the explanation why so many people in Texas believe this falsehood?

Maybe some are just angry, bitter Americans replying sarcastically to a poll about barack?

I wouldn't read too much into it. It's a poll.

So what you're saying is that Obama is not a Muslim, then?

Personally, I'd rather call him what I know him to be: a thug

Either way, I'm not voting for barry but for far more relevant issues than his religion.

As I said, don't read into it...it's a poll....

Don't lump all Texans together. I live in Austin, which is about as "red" as San Francisco. You see Obama signs/stickers everywhere here.

He doesn't have to be a Muslim. For anyone who has listened to Rev. Wright for 20 years, I find his or her integrity questionable. Perhaps people will refer to my comment as ignorant; I refer to it as common sense.
