I am a young white woman that voted for Obama. The whites that voted for Obama were in states in the Northeast, some in the midwest, and northwestern states. From what I recall most of the southern states (except for Florida and possibly North Carolina- which is probably due to many northeastern transplants living there) didn't vote for Obama. I am not saying it was all about race. But lets be realistic the South is the most racist part of the country. Most southern whites I have met (90%) are very racist, they think it is okay to use the n-word to refer to blacks when they are around me. I have to let them know not to use that term around me.

Southern whites make all of us look bad with their racist and backwards ways. My uncle went to a university in the south and said the southern whites were clapping and celebrating in the streets when Martin Luther King was killed and he was digusted. What about those people in TN (the south) who were plotting to kill Obama. He said southern whites are the most backwards, uneducated, and racist out of all whites in this country.

If I was a black person living in the south, especially outside of the major cities I would be in fear of the potential backlash from this Obama victory. My uncle said Tuesday it is going to be a lot of upset southern whites and will take their anger out on the blacks.

ever heard of stereotypes??? think maybe they were burning his picture because they are protesting his marxist views???
I forgot, in the Northwest, you care more about recycling than the constitution.

but my dad who was his age wasn't...

my daughter is married to guy from north MS--has not lived there full=time since he left for college but his family is there...his mom and her two sisters came to visit them in FL--south of Sarasota--a month ago...driving though the area showing them the sites--one thing they saw were numerous houses with Obama signs in front yards--
my daughter heard her MIL says "no way we are going to vote for an N-word"

James Byrd's death years ago was a symptom of the racial hatred some people still feel--but many people in today's society do not feel that way...
my husband and I both voted for Obama --our son and his wife--our daughter (her husband refuses to vote because he does not like any political party)...
I think what people miss about Obama being elected is the fact that blacks account for fewer than 14% of Americans--Obama had more than Blacks voting for him--so many were younger/first-time voters who see him as a chance for change -- a Kennedy figure for their generation--
my husband and I are just hoping he can undo the damage George Bush has inflicted on the govt and our liberties--Bush/Chaney were a dangerous duo...people have no real idea of how bad they and their policies are to America ...
what liberties did Bush take away? So far, Obama has pushed to take away 1st amendment rights (Fairness Doctrine) and Second Amendment rights (gun control).
Bush didn't kill the economy, Clinton did. Other than the Iraq War, Bush really hasn't done anything wrong. And the one big thing he tried to do, Social Security reform, got killed by the Dems. Now those same Dems want to take our 401K's. Now I won't be burning any Obama pictures, but I will be emailing my congressmen on a regular basis making sure they know how I feel about every right Obama tries to take away.

Also on the gloating in victory I was actually was in Texas (visiting friends) when Bush was declared the winner in the 2000 election you would have thought they had won the a championship. So many people were screaming Bush, jumping for joy, and honking their vehicles. People were outside yelling the "hell yeah Bush baby". Yes I remember it very clear and they were gloating. But I guess it is okay to gloat and be happy about Bush.

Why can't blacks be happy and excited about the first black president after the history they have had in this country? I don't fault them for being happy and crying about this historical election, but IMHO only a racist would be upset about black Obama supporters crying with tears of joy for his victory. I understand the blacks who were excited over this election more so then the individuals who were excited when Bush won in 2000.

But to make my point again when Gore and Kerry lost the election we didn't burn Bush pictures or campaign signs. But McCain loses the election
and Obama pictures and campaign signs get burned and nooses get hung. How you handle yourself in defeat is very telling.

Also on a side note my cousin who lives in Texas, told me the morning after the election a middle age woman working at Kroger was obviously so upset over the election that she started yelling I hate n-word and that she couldn't believe that this country would elect a n-word. To say it at your home is one thing, but to say on the job is another thing. You stay classy Texas

Your IGNORANCE is showing. You obviously know nothing about politics, the State of Texas or The South. Talk about "no class" and closed minded. Oh, and the ONLY time I've heard the "n-word" spoken in the last 10 years or so has been by blacks and NOT whites. I hardly doubt some lady stood in a grocery store in public and yelled out what your saying.

As a Native Texan I can say that I as well as many others have NEVER voted for a "Bush". I was NOT "gloating" when he won and I lived here during his "victories" for the Governor and the President. I don't recall ANY people going around "gloating" or ANY honking of horns going on in the streets.

As for this Presidential race - almost HALF of Texans voted FOR OBAMA and many of them were WHITE! Last time I looked my parents were white Here are some numbers for you that don't lie and you will see that a GOOD percentage of Texans voted FOR OBAMA.

These figures are based on the precinct-level results from the Dallas County Elections site since the precincts closely follow city boundaries in most areas. While quite a few cities in the county extend into neighboring counties, I included only the results from the Dallas County portion of these places for time reasons.

I tried my best to be as accurate as possible, but these are still only "rough tallies."

Here is something interesting. Look at the numbers for Highland Park and University Park:
Highland Park (Pcts. 1222, 1225-1227)
McCain: 3045 / Obama: 1095 / Others & Write Ins: 33

University Park (Pcts. 1206-1208, 1215-1218)
McCain: 8693 / Obama: 2689 / Others & Write Ins: 102

These are two communities/cities that are WEALTHY whites for the most part. VERY FEW blacks live in these two areas. Oh, for uw21, The Park Cities (what us locals call HP and UP) are two cities that are side by side surrounded by the City of Dallas. This is where ULTRA WEALTHY "white people" live - "OLD MONEY" wealthy people at that. They share a school district - HPISD and you can look up the numbers to see how many ethnic groups are in the schools there. Yet they got a good fair number of Obama votes.

I gave you a well-deserved rep point earlier, Momof2dfw and am sorry I can't give you another!

I want to note though, the only thing I would quibble about with your EXCELLENT points is this (a very minor one): That is, I don't think it is necessary to have to justify/defend the voting patterns of the State of Texas to someone such as the one who slammed Texas/The South. It is obvious the party in question is either a troll, or some clueless yankee so cloistured in their fantasy world of self-righteousness they wouldn't recognize truth anyway...

I guess what I am saying -- with all sincere and due and total respect -- is to cite stats on the numbers of Texans who voted for McCain vs. Obama sorta presumes that the poster has a point worthy of response.

The underlying premise of the the party in question is that failure to vote for Obama is tantamount to racism. Why even dignify such inane logic and nauseating breast-beating and ranting with figures at all? To hell with what that nut thinks, and I wish my whole orginal reply to that screwball could be summed up by saying "kiss my Lone Star Studded Southern boy hind end.." (forgive the crudity of the statement, ladies...I hope you will).

And although it might be a bit beyond the same's capacity to comprehend, I can GUARANTEE that if a conservative African American (such as Thomas Sowell, or Walter Williams, or Shelby Steele) were to run for president, then the vast majority of whites people in Texas and/or the rest of the South would support them overwhelmingly. I know I would!

I know I am preaching to the choir here, but the vote had nothing to do with race. It had everything to do with ideology. Too bad some people are so race-obcessed, they can't see that very simple fact...

Ok. I am finished rambling! LOL Great post, Momof2! God Bless Texas, our fair sunny Southland, and the United States of America!
