They are very close but it all depends on what recipe you use for the chess pie with cornmeal and what not that the JD pie does not have. We use whisky whip cream on the top of the JD pie and that changes it from the chess that is for sure.

Yep, gotta love that banana pudding!! HOWEVER....only my mom's, LOL!! She makes hers with homemade pie filling and Nilla vanilla wafers! I bet your version is wonderful, too....

I have never had banana pudding in a restaurant that just wasn't NASTY!!! It's one of those foods (along with potato salad) that I never eat away from home!

Enjoy your potluck!!

carolmcb is on a distinguished road
The key to good banana pudding -- never, never use instant pudding mix. Cook the pudding/pie filling from scratch. In a pinch, you can use the pudding/pie mix that you cook. But don't even think about using the instant stuff. Use whole milk when you make the filling. And remember, it's always better the day after you make it.

I think that is what a lot of restaurants do. I don't even like the cooked pudding from a package, when homemade from scratch tastes so much better.

Ain't that the truth!

Well.....I asked. She has 4 recipes...2 have cornmeal and 2 do not. She said she can't remember which recipe she made. She doesn't make desserts much any more unless they are reduced sugar or sugar-free.

So I STILL don't know whether or not cornmeal makes the difference, LOL!!

But all were GOOD.
