The possibilities are endless, given the fact that tract of land is vacant.
There would be a uniqueness about the new stadium, JV, and the key is for the developers and builders to do it the right way. They'd probably be best off with about 50 to 60K capacity max. That should do just fine with what Baylor requires.

Now the funny thing is, if and when this domed stadium gets built, they'd have to get rid of an island just north of the river and next to MLK. I forget what they call it, but they'd have to cover up that small body of water should the powers that be decide to break ground there.

If they can somehow cook up a "town center" concept in or next to downtown, that would be the perfect place for one.

The marina would add a nice touch to the tailgating along the Brazos. Just think about it: People living in lofts downtown can get in a boat and park their boats in the marina when they go to the game at the BearDome. Really, that's where people can take advantage of the tremendous power that the river can bring. This is where Waco residents can really step in.

Well its a great idea and I'm all for it downtown Waco compared to other city's is dead even though we do have alot of potential with the river.

The Bear Dome great idea its unique even though U of Minn, Syracuse, N. Iowa, and Idaho have domed stadiums

But to things the other side of the river Elm street is a run downed ghetto and did the river look a little wide in the video

The city would've been much more successful if they would just fixed up Elm Street. It wasn't long ago that Elm Street was packed on weekend nights with people club hopping from Truckers to roadrunners. Elm Street has the most potential at becoming a successful walkable neighbrhood.

Default checking waco out

Hey everyone,

Loved the link and video. We are thinking about a move to Waco and I'm reading everything on citydata.com that I can find out the city. It would be nice if Waco had their own forum or thread. Not sure what you call it.

OP thanks for posting.

I actually think it's very doable. It's not overly done, and I think it could be pulled off. The only thing that didn't impress me personally was another "dome" in Texas, and in the NCAA. Doesn't give the "college" feel to a game, and Texas is not a freezing area, so why a dome?

Oh, and I love Baylor, actually thought about going there, but the "undefeated" comment at the begining of the video holds tru to the title of the thread...lol. No offense, I'd love to see that.

The BearDome would work, definitely for football, and it can be very flexible for a lot of things, but it shouldn't take anything away from the Ferrell Center. And a walkway next to the river would be just fabulous.

No, I actually completely agree that the whole concept including the Bear Dome would work, I was just stating that while the majority of Waco would probably be for a dome over a new stadium I just simply like the outdoor "college" feel. Syracuse, and Idaho have domes and they are somewhat depressing inside. I know to families, and others the indoor environment is better, but not sure for the student body, just my opinion though. Only plus side to a dome is if Baylor could start attracting sellout crowds the noise factor would be a plus!

Another thing to look into, and im sure it has been, but does the University already have expansion plans for Floyd Casey, or has it already reached it's potential? If they did build it with intentions to expand in the future it's gonna be very hard to have them agree to a new facility.
