Very impressive. I don't think you can beat that as a "dream". Not to happen by 2015 or 2020. But something like that could happen with an extreme amount of cooperation and community support and involvement.

The problem with it though is that it caters to much to the Baylor students. Just across the river you have an area that is full of decay and filth, yet barely anthing is being done to fix this area up. Rennovating downtown is great, but if you don't have actually upscale/known stores like Dillard's/Marshall's/Forever21. It's not going to work, this area is a perfect location to put those type of stores to cater to the Baylor students and people living within the area.

They've already started construction on lots of these projects like the new hotel, the two lofts, Chambers office, the mammoth musuem, and rennovations to Cameron Park. Also Baylor and MCC are in the process now of expanding.

Default Creating A Healthy Advantage

When people see the advantages to a project such as the one Sheldon presents, it creates excitement. Waco's citizens certainly will be totally on board with this idea, and it will be something people will want to get involved with. The river itself will definitely create new possibilities. Things that previously were blighted can now become new all over again.

Default More On The BearDome

Also, too, y'all, is this. That BearDome idea could bring quite a bit more in the way of big events and conventions, sports or otherwise, that you couldn't do outdoors or for required greater amounts of seating that you couldn't do in the Ferrell Center. Now, on both sides of the river, you can have all of your sports venues concentrated in one close area. I never did understand why Floyd Casey's location is where it is, to begin with, so moving football games to the river area is certainly a great idea and I would support it in a heartbeat. And, for the record, I think it would be the only dome that I know of in the Big 12 for football.

I think once there are more residents downtown then the retail will follow.
I wonder if Waco could lure Macys into locating Downtown? Hey, anything is possible.

I think it might go back to when Cox's was here. They were'nt happy when Dillards opened up in the early 80s.

Default If Not A Dome, Then How About......

I just read some thoughts from Baylor fans elsewhere, and one suggestion that was brought up was that, instead of a domed stadium, that they should build an open-air stadium that opens up to the Brazos River, with an area for tailgating between the stadium and the river. That might actually be a better, and more realistic, idea when there's a river next to the property. What do you think?

I still like the idea for the domed stadium, but I am sure it could be designed to have the wall facing the river to open up, kinda like the retractable roofs NFL stadiums have. Having a domed stadium would be a one of a kind thing if I am not mistaken. I also think moving the Baylor marina to where the stadium would be might be a nice idea. The possibilities are endless, given the fact that tract of land is vacant.
