I can't seem to convince you that most of us native Texans don't give a rat's patootie what outsiders think of us.
Why do you have your nose out of joint so badly about it? Why do you care if Texans are proud of their state?

What the poster is saying that it's one thing to be proud of your state, but it's another animal when people from said state look down at other states and talk about how so much better they are than others. That's where the resentment comes from, because some people may find it obnoxious. Nothing "envious" about that.

True Texan? Oh, here we go again. Yes, my children are Texans and probably truer than most people in general. You haven't a clue as to how my children act, think, or whatever, so don't insult me and make yourself look silly. You know what, it doesn't matter what you think as your tunnel vision leaves much to be desired.
Trust me, you haven't broken anything to me, so please don't feel like you have. I get the picture and there's no changing it. No offense, but your attitude is why many find it unpleasant to associate with real Texans, whatever they are. Honestly though, what makes a real Texan to me is someone who is kind, sweet, honest, hospitable, friendly, humble, good values, and all those other admirable qualities. Oh wait, that also constitutes a pretty decent person no matter where he or she was born.
Let me question you about those who can't take the Texas cold (of which it isn't cold) and get a little more shallow on this topic. That's okay they're not Texan enough to take the cold which doesn't last long at all, but only a true Texan can take the heat? Oh please, that is another comment that is just over the top and ridiculous.

And you obviously don't have a sense of humor like a true Texan either.
Cheers!

Yeah, but what THAT poster is saying is that you can keep repeating yourself and saying it till you're blue in the face --or, to use a more Texas-friendly expression-- till the cows come home and guess what? You will never change her mind, nor the mind of any other Texan who thinks as she does. Trust me on this one!

I love the phrases! Texas is the best state in the Nation so they are fitting! Btw...I used to work on Death Row right after college.....from the flusterd nature of your posts that should settle well with you...lol. Cal me arrogant, but.....wait! I live in Texas I guess I am in that sense!

Envy is just another unattractive trait like pride, anger, jealousy et al. If anyone were envious, as you say, of the things you mentioned that really are not important (except for churches and BIG isn't necessary as they're rather unfriendly), I would safely guess those people are very shallow and might need to re-examine their values and priorities.

Now that's a hysterical post that really deserves a chuckle. This Texas forum is full of people who claim the title "natives" who are full of delightful senses of humor. Some have, some don't.

Sometimes arrogance is a facade for insecurity, but that's another topic all the way around.

I'm pleased you think that Texas is the best state in the nation because that is what you may need to think to be contented. I am not saying it isn't as I haven't researched such a vast topic, but you might be surprised that other states are pretty cool too and have some really nice and down-to-earth people living in them. In fact, I live amongst Texans who are just that, non-boasting, very friendly and kind, and have the same values I do.
I wonder if it's just people that either make or break an area. No, I guess it can't be as so many other things must be taken into consideration, but people do rank rather high, I would say, on how one MAY interpret an area of the country. You know, kind of like the gorgeous state of West Virginia and as idiots refer to.......the inbreds that live there. I'm not saying that, but I read it all the time on the forums.

When I look back at the orginal question, someone wondered why Texas always gets bashed, along with certain cities within Texas.
The bad part about bashing is that someone may take it seriously, and not even bother to check things out for themselves. Any given city/town might be a perfect fit for someone, whether they are natives or not. If they pay attention to the bashing, they might never find that out.
I will always love Texas....just not most of its climate, LOL!! Other states are cool, too, but I wouldn't live anywhere east of Abilene, ever....and probably not even east of the Alpine/Ft Davis area. If I ever return to Texas, I will head to A/FD/Marfa. But that's just me.
I think everyone needs to review the opinions (because that is what they are, nothing more, nothing less) and make their own decisions.
And...I still don't care what people from other states think about Texas.... If they want to be resentful, it's really no skin off of our collective noses.
