Why Are People ALWAYS Bashing Texas & Houston?
Why does it seem so many people here on CD are always bashing Texas and Texas cities, particularly Houston.
I mean these threads on here are sometimes downright ridiculous. I am sometimes guilty of partaking in them so I have no room to talk, but why is it when Texas is mentioned, its as if pandoras box has been opened?
In all reality no state or city is any better than the other...
The only state I have seen people from, NOT bash Texas or Houston are those from New York, but I'm sure I have missed a few here and there.
Californians always find something wrong with us, yet they are flocking here in droves. Californians are always spouting off how conservative and backwards Texas and Texans are, yet they just passed a referendum taking away peoples civil rights. Texas has yet to do that.
Chicagoans seem to have a deep hatred of Houston for some unknown reason. Why? Is it because Houston may/will surpass them as the 3rd largest city? Is it because Houston is the "Energy Capital of The USA"? Headquarters to NASA?
Some of you will spout off that Texas is home to George W? In some of your opinions the worst POTUS ever. OK fair enough, but what state just had their Governor arrested?? Nope NOT Texas! Oh yeah that would be Illinois!
So in all honesty why do so many of you bash Texas and Houston when your oh so called "paradises" are far from perfect.
I am not trying to troll, I just honestly want to know why does it seem that Texas and Houston gets more than of its share of hatefilled bashing? Is it just in reality, JEALOUSY?

The only negative thing I have to say about Houston is that it looks like a giant Metairie.
I have noticed however a lot of bashing from Texas (particularly Houston) of Louisiana.

I am from New York orginally and spent quite a bit of time in Houston and I don't like it. The weather was great, ppl were nice, cost of living was fantastic, and quite diverse but I found the city to be lacking in many areas especially for young single ppl. The nightlife in Houston is terrible. The city also lacks any type of charm or identity. It has the worst traffic of any city I have ever been too and can strike at any point during the day.

I have never been there so I cannot say based on any qualitative measure but I have noticed that the people from TX and Houston come across as being pretty obnoxious on these boards....

No bashing coming from this lifelong Southern Californian. I love Texas.... as long as I avoid the humid Eastern part during the summer. Every time I've been to Texas, since my first visit when I was 13, I feel at home. But not to worry, at age 53 I'm perfectly happy where I am and have no plans to relocate.... just the occasional visit, especially to the Hill Country and the Pedernales River Valley.

Houston does receive more criticism than any other city on this forum, even Atlanta (if that is possible). I will attribute this mainly to ignorance and jealousy.

Some people just don't like the sun-belt style cities. And no, its not jealousy or ignorance.

You reference Chicagoans are always putting Houston down...
I certainly cannot speak for all Chicagoans, but I can say from my own perspective that most Chicagoans really don't think of Houston very much, at least no more than Dallas, San Antonio or Atlanta or similar city. When I think of Houston it is pretty much along the lines of oil, humidity and the motif of "Big Texas". I also still think of the movie Urban Cowboy. I also realize it's a decent-sized city. Honestly, I would not take too much offense from Chicagoans, because we don't really think of Houston very often.
From a couple of threads I've noticed, if there are criticisms of Houston it's either because Houstonians may be unrealistically trying to compare themselves to Chicago or LA-- or the Chicagoans in question are simply short-sighted and small in their bashing of Houston. Houston is a growing city, and like-it-or-not, it plays a role (energy, NASA) in the health of the US.
