Holly Lake Ranch Property
I'm considering purchasing a house in that area, to retire to in a couple of months. I've been in Texas since 11/97, having lived in Arlington until transferring to the Beaumont area in 2003. After three major hurricanes, my home here was wiped out by Ike in September. No more coastal living for us!
Anyone here have any good info on the Hawkins area? We're planning a house hunting trip that way in a few weeks, and have seen some great deals on the 'net! Thanks for any ideas......

We spend some time at Holly Lake at a timeshare. It's a nice quiet place, very heavily treed so even tho some of the homes are close together there is still a lot of privacy. We noticed a lot of houses went up for sale about the time the gas prices shot up.....there are quite a few people who commute from there. We like to go there in the winter....it never feels as cold there as some places that are in more open country. Summers are pretty stifling, though, not much air down in those woods, but guess that's why they invented A/C. The golf course is good according to people who know about such things.

Almost bought a lot to build on this summer at Holly Lake Ranch. Very nice area as described above. I decided against the move because of the 30 mile 40 minute drive to Tyler for the "things" most people need. Medical care, shopping, restaurants, church etc. You will find out there is a one time $2,500 fee to buy a lot or home, a monthly fee of a little over $100 per lot unless you have a home on two or three lots that were "grandfathered."
If you decide it's too far from many things you need, try Tyler, looks much the same much to offer for it's size. Doesn't have much if common with Beaumont. Zoo, level one truma center, largest medical center in East Texas with many specialists, East Texas Symphony, University of Texas Tyler Performing Arts Center with plays, shows, that DFW have. Check it out on your way up to visit. At least it is where you will doing most of your shopping eating out etc. Most people at Holly Lake come to Tyler. Good luck on your choice !!

Gayle and Mark,
thank for the responses. Didn't know about the $2,500., but was aware of the HOA fees. I like the Tyler area too, and have also been searching there. I do like my privacy, and have also been in contact with a great realtor who contacted me on here. She's also providing me MLS listings from the Hideaway Lake community. We're looking forward to the move and change of scene in the next couple of months.
We lived in Arlington for about 6 years before my agency transferred me here, and I'm retiring early this year, so, the wife and I are both needing the change and return to the DFW area. ( we just don't want to live there again though!)

Hideaway Lake has a $5,000 fee, don't know the monthly. But that may not be a deal buster. Again, welcome to the area !!
