If you are still looking for a place, Longview definitely has more to choose from, and in several different price ranges. I don't live there anymore, but I grew up there, I attended Kilgore College, and my mother still lives there. In fact, I was just there last week. For years, Pine Tree School district was the preferred area to live, with Spring Hill and White Oak following close behind. There are several apartments and/or duplexes scattered all around these areas. They are still fine for the most part, but most new development is north of town. Most of south Longview has been on the decline for a number of years and you must be very selective if you want to live there.

You will find more conveniences, selections, stores, and restaurants in Longview than Kilgore, and the drive is more like 20 minutes (unless there's an accident or you live on the far side of town). Henderson is about the same distance south of Kilgore, but it doesn't have near as many amenities or conveniences. Tyler is about 30 to 40 minutes west of Kilgore, is slightly larger than Longview, and has even more selections.

I would think you could find most listings in the Longview News Journal or a local apartment finder. Good luck with your search.

From downtown Kilgore to downtown Tyler is about 25 miles. Your can get to South Tyler in about 30 minutes from Kilgore - few lights - Tyler does have a larger selection now being about 25,000 larger population. Good luck on your search.

We'll probably have to stay with relatives or something for a few days, until we can find a place in person. I was just kinda hoping to maybe, at least, make a few contacts or find some decent prospects. I was really surprised that the college didn't have some manner of assistance in this area. Surely with the influx of students coming from various points of Texas it would be worth their while.

I've considered both Longview/Tyler but, for reasons I can't really go into on here, it's going to have to be Kilgore.

Thanks all, for your support and suggestions.
