Default Texas Country

I posted a thread similar to this in the music section, but wasn't getting any responses. Anyway, I'm trying to put together an ultimate Texas/Rebel/Outlaw/Americana CD to sit around the fire with and sip on a beer to. I've got twelve tracks so far and I'd like to get eight more. Please post your suggestions and please no corporate nashville trash. They are very few artists in that town still making anything close to resembling real country music. No Kevin Fowler either (nothing personal).

1. Whiskey River (Willy Nelson)
2. Unwound (George Strait)
3. The Fireman (George Strait)
4. You Had Me at My Best (Wade Bowen)
5. The Party's Not Over (Jason Boland & and the Stragglers)
6. Pearl Snaps (Jason Boland & and the Stragglers)
7. Dancehall Dreamer (Pat Green)
8. My Hometown (Charlie Robison)
9. Bar Light (Charlie Robison)
10. The Road Goes on Forever (Robert Earl Keen)
11. Corpus Christi Bay (Robert Earl Keen)
12. Coperhead Road (Steve Earle)

I am a texas country aficionado. I could write a book about it but have no internet at the ranch I am ranch-sitting at so I will make this brief cuz its not fun toi type at length on a blackberry small qwerty keyboard. I don't listen to nashville country or top 40 generic stuff at all. My all time favorite is ben atkins. His cd "small town things" is the best depiction of small town texas life. I like pat greens pre-selling out to nashville stuff. My favorite song he does is "adios days" and also like "I like texas"..and "west texas holiday". Ben atkins depicts small town texas better than any singer songwriter around. His cd is hard to find. Wish I could write more but this aint easy. Can't wait till I'm done being dr doolittle and can get home to my creature comforts. No internet or cable or satellite here!!

Whataya mean you didn't get any responses. You got 2 here and I believe it is up to 10 responses in that music thread. Including one from me.

It would help if you would return to your question and thank all those who helped you rather then posting a question and disapearing from the face of the earth.

There is a long history of Texas rock and Texas jazz, too. I wish some people didn't have the idea that only counrty music can be "Texan". I'm not including anyone here in that category, but it seems all too prevalent.

Exactly. May the music of Buddy Holly and Roy Orbinson live on forever, I love their music. Another that comes to mind off the top of my head, ZZ Top. In order not to sidetrack this thread, maybe someone will start a new thread on Texas artists of rock (soft~hard) which will also include the rockabilly artists.

This is a oldie (1955) by Johnny Cash. It's pretty cool; he mentions numerous Texas cities.....cute.

no doubt, Texas produces some fine music outside of authentic country. SRV is one of my heroes. My alarm is set to play Little Wing each morning. I don't know of a more blissful way to greet the day.

Default Texas Country

You can always begin with Waylon and Willie. And you can also make a pretty good case for the Randy Rogers Band. It's a Texas group, but they've exploded in the mainstream of country with some big hits.

Here's a link for more Texas music. 98.1 KVET - The Genuine Austin Original

I know it's considered a mainstream station, but they dang sure ain't ordinary.
