Default Wanting to move to texas

I currently live in Tennessee, but I lived in Alvord, TX about 19 years ago. I really don't like it here and am wanting to move back to Texas, I'm just not sure where to go. The tax rate here is unbeliveable and there seems to be an abundant amount of *******s here lately. Perhaps the shallow gene pool is taking it's toll. I am looking for that down-home-country-folk type setting. I know it's out there, I just haven't been able to find it yet. I am a truck driver and a freight broker. I want someplace where the cost of living is not that bad and I don't want to be around a major city. I was looking at Abilene, but I'm not sure what the job market or the rental property is like in that area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
