I am against it too--especially the way it is being funded and the fact that European nations are doing the work.

I feel that it will ruin the fabric and flavor of Texas. As it is now, I-35 is enough to give one a nervous tic.

Bullet trains, commuter rails, and employment opportunities?
Terrible.

But then again, the easy access to the valley does sound appealing. . .

I don't like the idea at all. As a lifelong conservative Republican, it pains me to think of Bush and his counterparts in Mexico and Canada getting together on this North American Union deal. TX governor Rick Perry is apparently of the same mindset. The Trans-Texas Corridor is a part of all this, along with NAFTA and CAFTA.

Every day that passes, we lose a little more of our sovereignty.

It quite frankly scares the h*** out of me.

I thnik you will find that the citiesies and areas political leaders fought to have this go thru their area. IT's just like looking at say where I-10 went thru. Notice that it realy doesn't make much sense but goes thru the ploitcal powerful areas. Then look how they have grown and the hwys nearby and the feeder hwy's They get alot of the funding while other areas get basically less funding. There will be alot of private infrastructure and jobs created in these areas also. This is going to cost a ton of money and this is just a way of getting it funded without cutting other areas short by public funding for a hwy type like not built before in this country to serve it intended use and last.As far as tollthat is nothing new;look at Houston. It is a way of areas getting needed improvements that help the local economy and have those using it pay. Otherwise the roads we have been building for ever will continue to deacy;never having been constructed for the type of trafficv they see and the number of years service.Unless you want registration fees;licenses and gas state gas taxes to go up to the rate inmany states. Its like evryhthng else people gripe about the condition of roads and the traffic but then don't want to pay. Its like many roads and infrastructure like bridges in rural areas;they do not suppot themselves by the people using them but the people there want them and kept up.Ain't nothing free as the saying goes.

Texacan is on a distinguished road
Ron Paul has introduced a bill to prohibit federal funding. He makes a good point - private lands will be taken for this road which is a private business. Eminent domain does not allow this. It's unconstitutional.

Tell that to the political leaders who formed the Eastern Central Texas Sub-Regional Planning Commission. I suspect they will beg to differ with you.

I don't think most people would want a 1,200' wide road going through! I doubt anyone will be stopping in at the local choke and puke so bringing business to small towns probably won't happen - just pollution, noise and loss of property.

Me too. I think the GOP sold us out to corporate interests. Perry and Bush make my skin crawl. I'll be voting third party this November. It doesn't matter which of the three main candidates win. We still continue to lose our country. It's time to consider secession.

I will take up arms to defend the land owners against TxDot's invasion if constuction of the TTC occurs.

80% of Texans don't agree with the construction of the TTC. It's time to unite against corrupt government. This will no doubt contribute to more illegal immigration and will further drive down the wages of hard working Americans due to Mexican truckers undercutting us.

I concur. The entire point of TTC is to further their agenda, to make us all one big happy family....and to me, it borders on treason, as does Bush's refusal to enforce the laws against illegal immigration. His refusal to pardon the USBP agents Compean and Ramos, in favor of a Mexican drug runner makes me sick. But it is all part of the grand plan.

Secession seems like a great idea...!

I haven't registered to vote here yet....and I may just forget the whole thing. There are no good candidates, and the next four years (God forbid, 8??) don't look very good.
