Default Need Some Help for Central Texas!!

Hello Everyone!! I am planning on moving my family of 4 to Texas this summer and have narrowed down some places that seem to be nice. Any input on the middle and high school, does it have low crime? Are the home prices reasonable under $150,000. We like a small town community to bring up our child. Thank you in advance for any comments..

Places of interest!!

1. Grand Saline
2. Canton
3. Edgewood
4. Wills Point
5. Van
6. Dublin
7. Hico
8. Hamilton
9. Texarkana

I live in Central Texas and the only towns you mentioned above that are basically in C. TX are Dublin, Hico, and Hamilton. The others are either north or east Texas.

Dublin, Hico, and Hamilton are all pretty nice little towns that would be great to raise a child, in my opinion, good country life. I don't know about the schools or crime rates, but you can check out that information on web sites such as www dot greatschools dot net and if the town is listed as most are in the U.S., the city-data site has great information pertaining to weather, crime, and much more.

Good luck.

Default Questions about Canton

Canton and Edgewood schools are great. Lakeside Baptist Church in Canton is awesome. Nice people around here. If you come, I would buy--don't rent. Very hard to find rental property. We ended up renting a large place in Canton Lakeside Villages, manufactured homes around a small lake. Looks nice but don't let it fool you. Electric bills in the $400s and the roads are very muddy with potholes, which they have not fixed for months. Also, the yards are not leveled so they are muddy.
Houses do tend to be small so take your time looking. Canton can get crazy around First Monday, so keep that in mind.
If you like driving, live somewhere near Martin's Mill. It's a spot in the road but has one of the best school districts in the area.
Good luck!

We live between Hico and Stephenville. Hico is very small but, quaint and friendly, taxes and home values are lower in Hamilton County. Stephenville has great schools and sports programs as well as being a college town (Tarleton State University) but taxes are higher because of the schools in Erath County. Homes in the 150k range near town in S'ville is reasonable; Hico is alot less "citified" but you may be able to find a home with some land for that amount if you'd like to be out in the country. Weather-wise, a good rule of thumb would be the further West of I-35 you get the drier it gets; the further East it gets wetter/rainy. Look for towns that may be in "Tornado Alley". Here in Hico we seem to get less of the really severe weather that usually occurs North of I-20 and moves East from Wichita Falls towards Mineral Wells, Denton, Decatur, Dallas, Kaufman, etc. Stop in the Koffee Kup Cafe in Hico for the renowned mile-high pies and bar-b-que at the Hard 8 on Hwy. 281 in Stephenville!

aw man!!! Hard Eight BBQ in Stephenville.......i flew the Cessna into the General Aviation airport there in Stephenville, and Hard Eight BBQ has golf carts (with keys in it) in a designated Hard Eight BBQ spot, where pilots can just take the golf cart (free)...kinda like a courtesy car/crew car...and ride it across the field near the hangars, and across the road, into Hard Eight BBQ!!!
too cool!
open pit BBQ was AWESOME there...and they play Texas country...and the banana puddin was good. great atmosphere with lots of rustic wood, and the parking lot got plenty of goosenecks!!!. quintessentially Texas...gotta love it!!!
Hard Eight BBQ

and some of my own pics from my day flight to eat bbq there:

I recently obtained my real estate license and am working with United Country in Stephenville and Hamilton if you have any more questions I can help with. Good luck and welcome to Texas!
