Is Tyler, Tx a small community in the middle of nowhere?
Does people living in Tyler feel isolated?

Tyler is located just off I-20. We are about 1 hr 15 minutes from the eastern suburbs of DFW. We are 1 hr 30 minutes from Shreveport. The population of Tyler is about 115,000...by latest estimates. We have all the major stores that any other mid size cities have.

Actually Tyler is more like 200,000 when factoring in all of Smith County.

Most anything you want and then some in a city this size. High rise condo. Major shopping, the University of Texas at Tyler Cowen Performing Arts Center, nice zoo. Major Regional Medical Center of East Texas Level One Truma Center, serves more than 350,000 people.Short drive to DFW if we wanna'. But yes, in 15 minutes we can be in the middle of a beautiful forest with few people around. What else do you need to know? Happy to help.

Actually because Tyler is kind of the hub of East Texas it feels quite lively these days.. Tyler has nearly all the options larger cities have, except on a moderate scale...

I didn't realize Tyler was that big, population wise. I was thinking more around 75,000 or so. We plan to retire in East Texas, but on or near the Caddo Lake area, so Marshall would be the "main city" in this regard. However, I always loved Tyler. Especially beautiful during the Rose and Azalea Trail season...

I don't think anyone in East Texas feels isolated. From Tyler to Longview, there is a strong mindset that identifies with being an "East Texan." Even in the small towns, there's a palpable sense of community.

Tyler draws alot of people from smaller communities...like me! The smaller counties around Smith county have to go to Tyler for movies, restaurants, etc. I've been in and around the Tyler area for over 25 years and have watched the changes. Boy have they been huge! All that being said, you can live 15-20 minutes away and feel like you're in the country! Great balance!

The last time we stayed in Tyler for a real several days visit was about 3 years ago. Never paid much attention to the population growth -- to busy enjoying the beauty and feel and all -- so yeah, that accounts a lot for not having really noticed how it has grown over the years (first started really coming out that way in 1998 or so).

Still, I never really thought of it as a "sleepy East Texas town" Maybe some in the huge cities of Texas might see it that way...but being from Wichita Falls, I just thought of it as very nice medium size city in East Texas. Has all the things one would want in terms of what is expected in a "modern day" city (shopping malls, major hospital, etc)...but still posesses that East Texas/Old Southern charm and beauty and laid back lifestyle.

Can't beat the combination. I loved it.
