Not too big of an issue, but how far away would one need to move to escape the fumes of all the chemical plants?

I am a little prejudice on Texas vs La.. No job offer in SE Texas???

As far as escaping the "fumes" I'd say for the most part 30 miles is pretty good. I live 50 miles north of Beaumont and smell nothing but pine trees and fresh air ... I think! I grew up in the middle of refineryville and I may have already destroyed my olfactory capacity years ago even though I've been away from there for 30 years except for occassional returns.

Wow, 30 miles? I woulda said something around 7 or 8 miles, and that's guaranteeing you'll never smell it. (Of course I'm just a daily visitor here so....) Most of the time only a few miles is good enough. The 'bedroom' towns of Nederland and Groves faintly stink on a regular basis, though. Really depends on the wind direction.

I grew up in Port Neches for some of my early youth/adolescent years. I'd say north of Beaumont past Lumberton to get away from the smell. Of course right on the coast or even on Sabine Lake can give you fresh air from the Gulf.

I am writing to you out of a Fema trailer. I live in Orange and my neighborhood DID flood. It took 3 days before the water went down enough to get to my house. Also the next city, Bridge City flooded. I think something like all but 12 houses flooded, bad! It is very humid and hot here. I hope you like heat. Good luck to you. My advise would be to drive around in the evening. The day always looks nice. It's the evenings that get dangerous in areas, that do not show during the day. Good luck.
