Just got off the phone with Mrs. Hound.....she's going to make a pot of Hound 109's chili this afternoon.

Anybody else getting the itch for chili with the cold front that's blowing in?

(the hound family enjoys it with fritos & grated longhorn cheese.....kind of a homemade frito pie.....no beans......leftovers go great with eggs. )

Chili sounds like a good idea on a chilly day. Sorry, I couldn't help myself, the homonyms got the best of me. But I had BBQ yesterday, and chili is too much like it. It sounds good, though.

I am! It was a toss-up between a pot of red beans or a pot of stew or chili and the chili won out! Brrr!!! Just sounded too good on a day like today!

Why is chili bad for your diet, mom? Lean meat...high fiber in beans....?

I used to use buffalo meat stew. But it began to get too expensive. There's all kinds of recipes online. Also, it is thought chili was probably invented in San Antonio:

Quote:
The most plausible origin of chili came in 1828 when J.C. Clopper observed the poor people in San Antonio cutting what little meat they could afford into a has like consistency and stewing it together with as many pieces of peppers as pieces of meat.

My favorite is Rick Bayless chili reciepe. I don't have it with me but a google search should pull it right up. It's simply outstanding.

Hey this does sound pretty good. Chili, not frito pie (yuck).

My wife experimented with a chicken version and I must say it's pretty darn good.

However, it is 78 degrees outside down here!! ... We're still waiting for the cold spell, which won't be anything worth mentioning by the time it gets here. 40-50 degrees.

I hear DFW is getting ice storms, though. They could use some 3-alarm!

If you are going to make chili you have to make a big pan of cornbread.
