Ok, fellow Texans...

Here is the scenario:

You are relaxed and enjoying the evening. Ain't got a damn thing to do. You are either in your favorite recliner, or propped up on pillows watching TV and your favorite Candid Camera episodes or most favorite old commercials.

What would you consider to be the bestest "junk food" (Texas style) to accompany this leisure event...?

Since I started it, I will go first:

Glass of cold sweet milk and buttermilk combination...with cornbread mashed up in it. Some beef jerky. A "free-toe pie" of the old type with the bag slit open. Some hot sauce and tortilla chips. Sardines and saltine crackers....

Y'all?

Anyway, I think the best Texas junk food for me is still the old reliable.

Tortilla chips and salsa.

Again, chips & salso (or melted queso + rotel tomatoes).
Beef jerky is good, deer jerky just as good. Esp with a few bottles of beer (Pacific NW beer, sorry to say).
Fritos & jalapeno bean dip.
Frito pie is not allowed in my house.

A big glass of 2% cold milk
Finish it off with Reeses Cups!

Frito Pie

Mango, Papaya, Pineapple, or Apples sprinkled with TREJAS (the ONE and ONLY thing i loved and adopted form my one year in South Texas. Trejas is AWESOME)

Chips and hot sauce/salsa/pico de gallo/guacamole dip. (I really like the mild HEB roasted salsa in the pouches found in the produce section chilled-it is AWESOME...and i cant believe I have to buy the mild version, as I love hot stuff...but even the medium is a bit too much for me!)

Quesadillas

Bagel bites (made in toaster oven, NOT microwave)

Lightly salted pita chips and hummus dip

and Shiner Bock of course!

Chips and salsa or the old frito-pie standby. I love frito-pie! There's hardly anything better than chili and fritos mixed together.

BTW, I also LOVE NOTAM's suggestion of hummus dip. It's delicious.

BAKEN-ETS fried pork skins were a favorite as a child. Now I realize they aren't something I should consume on any regular basis. Carb-free tho!

Nilla wafers and milk is an old standby.

And my favorite snack is just plain old popcorn, popped in a pot on the stovetop. Can't get into the microwavable versions. Not the same to me.
