For Californian's I'd suggest the Panhandle (Lubbock or Amarillo), or the Valley....just my suggestion.

I'm from central CA too (Madera to be exact). We want to relocate to TX as well. We'll be visiting the Hill Country in April. From what I've learned it's beautiful, the humidity isn't quite as bad, close to city (Austin/San Antonio). We're checking out Kerrville, San Angelo, Blanco, and the surrounding area. Good luck to you.

I'm from southern California and I can assure you the humidity is very uncomfortable in many parts of Texas. Here are several examples and believe me, the comfort index matters. The higher the number, the more comfortable you'll be. The summers are very long, but the Hill Country is beautiful.

On average, there are 264 sunny days per year in Madera, CA. The July high is around 98 degrees. The January low is 36. Our comfort index, which is based on humidity during the hot months, is a 60 out of 100, where higher is more comfortable. The US average on the comfort index is 44.

On average, there are 222 sunny days per year in Kerrville, TX. The July high is around 93 degrees. The January low is 33. Our comfort index, which is based on humidity during the hot months, is a 29 out of 100, where higher is more comfortable. The US average on the comfort index is 44.

On average, there are 250 sunny days per year in San Angelo, TX. The July high is around 95 degrees. The January low is 29. Our comfort index, which is based on humidity during the hot months, is a 29 out of 100, where higher is more comfortable. The US average on the comfort index is 44.

On average, there are 227 sunny days per year in Blanco, TX. The July high is around 95 degrees. The January low is 35. Our comfort index, which is based on humidity during the hot months, is a 23 out of 100, where higher is more comfortable. The US average on the comfort index is 44.

Lubbock has two small lakes nearby and a larger lake about 60 miles away near Post, is very comfortable as far as humidity is concerned, and has Texas Tech as well as two smaller universities. The pop. is around 270,000 and growing.

My bad. I have always heard good things about SFA and if someone waived a magical wand in my direction, that's where I'd tell 'em I want to get it done at...SFA.

I'm a humidity freak because I dislike it so. Here is information about Lubbock and its comfort level which is better than some places in Texas but still leaves a lot to be desired and can't compare to states with low humidity.

On average, there are 264 sunny days per year in Lubbock, TX. The July high is around 93 degrees. The January low is 25. Our comfort index, which is based on humidity during the hot months, is a 35 out of 100, where higher is more comfortable. The US average on the comfort index is 44.

Atlanta, GA's comfort level is a 34 and everyone is always mentioning how terribly humid it is there.

Canine*Castle - thanks for the information. We'll be checking other areas of the US before we make any decisions. My husband loves the hill country, so I'm just excited to get to go on a road trip this spring and check things out. We're on a 5 year plan, depending on when the R.E. market turns around and we can get what we need out of our home. I'm used to the heat, have lived here all my life. When it's over 95 we pretty much stay in. I've visited Houston in the summer and the humidity didn't really bother me. Do some people like humidity? Am I weird?

Where are you getting your information? Lubbock is nowhere near humid in the summer. We are usually about 90 with 20% humidity in the summer.

I love humidity! One thing I hated about Denver was how dry the air is, especially in the winter. Getting shocked by everything never held any appeal for me....especially the kind of shocks you'd get in the mountains, sometimes complete with sparks
