Default Texas secede?

Do any of you Texans out there think that one day TX would secede from the Union? Is that just a lot of hoo hah from a small group, or could it be a reality?

Well, it's a myth that Texas retained the right to secede when it joined the Union. (More than any other state, that is.) So there's that.

I don't think it's likely. Sometimes I'd really, really, really love for us to, but, no, I don't think it will happen.

If any state could pull it off and be successful - it would be Texas. When you really think about it, we pretty much have it all. Oil, gas, agriculture, water, power, trade, defense, technology corridor - Texas is bigger (and more diverse and self sustaining) than many nations around the world.

I hope not. I plan on moving to Texas from Alaska b/c I miss living in "America" as one former Alaskan put it. Alaskans talk about seceding from time to time. There's a thread on that board about it.

Sorry to crash the party, but um....why do you guys want Texas to secede so much?! It just seems so silly and unnecessary.

Texas isn't going to secede. I realize it's a pipe dream for the wingnut cross-section but it's not gonna happen.

I hope they do then when TX falls flat on its face and asks for government handouts they get rejected. Overly proud Texans are ridiculous. Never understood why many people in TX think they're better than everyone else.

Not overly proud. We just understand the import of your comments.

No, Texas is not going to secede. It's just seems to be a good idea. The part I don't get is where you say 'I hope they do', then say 'and asks for government handouts'. Uhhhh, if Texas were to/did secede how would they ask for government handouts? Sounds, well... ridiculous.

It's not that we think we are better than everyone else, but rather we think the U.S. doesn't deserve us.
