hi everyone! i've been off line for a few days and it was such a wonderful surprise to see so much on this thread.
the pictures of nacogdoches are beautiful! i went to realtor.com and investigated the real estate and every home is shrouded with Trees! i'm definitely looking more into that.
new braunfels as well. sounds like there are lots of great things there.
i've been investigating ft. worth and reading the threads in the ft. worth forum and it sounds like it might be a good place for us.
thank you all for your opinions! i've written everything down and am investigating in all of my spare moments. i'm looking forward to actually getting on the ground!
naptime is just about over, so on to the next great thing (:
thanks again everyone!
amy

Lakewood/Hollywood Heights-Santa Monica has everything you are looking for. It's in East Dallas.

I second that - drive up Swiss Avenue from Downtown through Lakewood Shopping Center and then continue down Lakewood Blvd to the lake. Take notice of Brookside Drive, which leads into Hollywood Heights and Tokalon, which is off Lakewood Blvd. before it intersects with Lakeshore Drive.

The largest trees in Dallas are in the appropriately named Forest Hills. It's in East Dallas just to the south and east of the largest urban lake in the USA, White Rock Lake. Adjacent Little Forest Hills is less expensive.

Also North Oak Cliff (Stevens Park, Kessler and Winnetka Heights) has spectacular trees, hills and vintage homes.

People can make a home anywhere, but Palestine would not be one I would consider.

texel is on a distinguished road
I live between Mount Vernon and Sulphur Springs. In Saltillo. We are about 93 miles east of Dallas. We are located at what they call the Ark-la-tex. Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas and not far at all to Oklahoma. Maybe an hour away.

I have lived in West Texas and in East and Northeast Texas. I actually have my home and land up for sale. But, it was built in 1950. But both towns I live between have lots of old historic homes. Some are for sale.

My realtor actually has one for sale in Mt. Vernon. It is just beautiful with large trees and even a swimming pool in the back yard. I actually knew the owner, before the people that are selling it, bought it. I have been inside it.

We have everything that you are looking for. Mount Vernon has 3 lakes. Called the Tri Lakes. Sulphur Springs has Cooper Lake. My kids school is a smaller school, but they have a wonderful preschool program, that the kids go all day. Just like everyone else. Most of the surrounding areas bring their preschoolers to Saltillo.

My kids get a good education. But it is like any other school. It depends on the child and how much they want to learn. My kids do very well there. We are only moving because my husband took a job a good bit away and he is tired of driving it.

Mt. Vernon, has a very good school district also. As does Sulphur Springs. These towns are located right off of I-30 100 miles and less From Dallas. We aren't far from Tyler, Palestine, Longview or Nacodoches. We have a state park close by and other family parks. And lots of large trees.

Anyway, good luck in your search. I personally love Texas and wouldn't live anywhere else.

Default I would avoid Stephenville!

I noticed that someone recommended Stephenville, Texas...but I would avoid that area unless you enjoy sharing 75 percent of the town with drunken cowboy college students.

I know because I went to school there!
