Default Looking to move to texas and need some help!!

My husband and I are looking to relocate to Texas. We currently live in Ohio and hate the weather. We have a 7 year old son, so we are looking for a very good school district. As much as we love the ammenities of the big city, we would like to be in a smaller to mid-sized town that is within driving distant to the culture of a bigger city. We were orignally looking in the Galveston and Corpus Christi areas. Any thoughts??? We are completely open on location just would like to be close to water, beaches or lakes. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Look into Waco or Tyler. They sound like good fits.

Galveston is still in pretty bad shape from Hurricane Ike, but Corpus is here and is fine. There are lots of threads about CC. I recommend that you read some, if you haven't already, and then come back and ask more questions.

Temple/Belton/Killeen. Get the Texas Travel Guide for a reference to places and things Texas.

Temple and Belton are on I-35, two hours south of Dallas and one hour north of Austin. There's a couple of nice lakes nearby, Lake Belton and Stillhouse Hollow. Temple is in growth mode with major freeway expansion and industrial development. On the west side of Belton is Killeen where you find Fort Hood, the largest active Army post in the U.S.

That's my suggestion. I love it in this area! Have grown to like it even more than my years in North Texas!

Tyler

I just copied from a post that just went off this page about Tyler.

Hi: Depends where you a moving from as to what you expect/need for the school salary to be. Also, what it cost to live where you are from, it could be a lot less than Tyler.

Tyler is more than 3 times the size of Nacogdoches so maybe, a better chance for a job for you. No doubt, a much better chance for a job for your husband.

As far as cities, go Nac. is more laid back and Historic Place a nice small/old downtown area, a college town, really deep in the Piney Woods. I like it.

Tyler, is on the edge of the Piney Woods with many more huge Oak trees, gently rolling hills, with pasture areas a well. Tyler is historic Azalea District too very modern 14 story high rise condo - major shopping, very expensive to not so expensive areas to live in, yes we do have our older "not so kept up" areas, yes some drawbacks here. One is not the property tax rate , it's the lowest in the state of any city over 30,000 population rate is .20 per $100 dollar evaluation.

Tyler has the Univesity of Texas at Tyler with the on campus Cowan Performing Arts Center with major plays that stop in Dallas also coming here, Season packages and special events. The East Texas Symphony is here that compares fairly favorabaly with the Houston Symphony, I lived in Houston 20 years. Has a really nice zoo.

Tyler is medical center of East Texas with the only Level One Truama Center in the area. Many specialist here. And finally, many people find Tyler beautiful with the Azaleas,Dogwoods.Tulips and the largest Municipal Rose Garden the nation. Come take a look, of course it would be much nicer in the Spring or thereafter, it does look like winter with only the Pine trees green, we have four seasons with a mild winter.

Many people live just outside Tyler and in Whitehouse,Bullard, Lindale.

If you have anyother questions. I'll try to answer them or refer you to someone.

Good luck on your decision.

EXCELLENT!

Scott & White Medical Center, Temple, TX-Level I Trauma Center with over 500 beds and growing.

Kings Daughter Hospital, Temple, TX-family oriented hospital, maybe Level IV? probably about 200 beds? (not sure)

VAMC (Veteran's Affairs), Temple, TX-over 400 beds, serving our veterans

CRDAMC (Carl R Darnall Army Medical Center), Ft Hood/Killeen, TX-Level II, over 200 beds, serving active duty members, dependents, and retirees.

That is just the beginning...then there are the hospitals in Waco, Killeen, and all the other towns here.

I should know, I am a medical professional.
