Default Llano or Canyon Lake?

I'm a 56 year old retired widow looking for a place with a small town atmosphere, good churches, friendly people, and a community to get involved in. I also want outdoor amenities and river/lake access that will keep the grandkids coming to visit. I may eventually want a part-time job to supplement my income.

I could care less about golf courses and such, so traditional "retirement communities" aren't for me!

Llano and Canyon Lake both have property I can afford. Does anybody out there have any feedback on living in these areas? I'll be relocating from Spring, TX.

Thanks!

Canyon Lake is a lovely area. Small, rural and quiet.

My son goes to Llano a lot, and he really likes it there. He has to live in the metroplex right now, but he hopes one day to be able to move back to the country.

Llano has a little over 3,000 people, CL over 21,000 (I don't consider that small, but the lower population, the better, in my opinion). That alone would make me choose Llano. CL population change since 2000 has increased over 27%, Llano's only .06%. It will only get worse or better, however one looks at it. I look at it as worse.

Llano's housing and property taxes are less than CL. Overall cost of living is less in Llano. Air quality is better than Llano, but water quality is better in CL.

Llano has my vote.
