Default relocating to college station with 3 young children, any advice

My husband is in the Navy and we got orders to transfer to College Station around April. What are some areas outside of College Station that aren't too far driving distance? My daughter will be starting school in August also so what are some good schools in the area?

We moved from B/CS (Bryan/College Station) before we had kids, so I can't comment on the public schools. Our kids go to Central Texas Christian School in Temple, and through the grapevine I've heard good things about Brazos Christian School. Back in the mid 90's the south and west parts were pretty nice.

I really enjoyed living in B/CS. I did not go to TAMU but I enjoyed the college town youth and vigor. Check out Freebird's Burritos for some good eating. I hope things go well for you.

I use to teach for College Station ISD and would say that all the schools in that district are good there. I also use to substitute for Bryan ISD and couldn't say the same about all the schools there. There are definitely some good schools there but you would have to do a little more research.

I taught HS English in Bryan ISD and left rather unimpressed. Always heard pretty good things about College Station ISD in general. I wish I could be more specific!

As for neighborhoods, you have quite a few good ones to choose from. You might post some of the areas you're considering, and we can respond with our impressions.

As and Aggie '90 and former teacher in Bryan. I think you should stick with College Station schools. There are some really nice neighborhoods in CS that have many children.

We will be moving to CS in June and are rather excited. My kids will go to CS schools. You can look up the school ratings and pick from that. Google Texas Public school ratings and you will find it. There are many nice areas around town. I hope it will be easy to meet some people and find a book club!Goodluck to ya
