have you checked CRAIGS LIST online? it seems to be used ALOT these days for housing (and everything else)
and if you are interested in apartments, i know which complex alot of the National Guard soldiers who are "deployed" down there, and Border Patrol/ICE etc live at. and i do know that it is safe there, otherwise they would not be staying there.

Hello! I am not intending to hijack this thread, but I just wanted to place my questions that are similar to the original post. I am looking for an apartment in McAllen and need your advice. The Rincon is one of the options I am considering. I have also found apartment complexes on East Fern, East Quamasia, and East Camelia. Are these areas safe? Which neighborhood is the safest? Because I am a single female, safety is an issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

Rincon is nice. We lived in the Medpoint Condominiums on Vermont Ave. in South McAllen while our house was being built. They're very secure, and a lot of medical personnel live there (I believe they offer a discount). They also allow pets.

There some apts. on the Northside that actually aren't all that safe and are pretty bad but common sense should tell you when you get there not to live there lol.

anyways heres another helpful link: Apartment: Apartments - The Lower Rio Grande Valley of South Texas (http://www.theriograndevalley.org/apartment/index.html - broken link)

Thank you very much for the information. I have put the Medpoint Condominiums on my list! I am also considering Stonewood, Redwood, and Northwood which are listed on the website. Are they situated in safe neighborhoods?

Thank you!

^Yes actually I believe they are in the safest area in McAllen which is North East section. Most of the ghetto/shady apartments are more on the North West side off 23rd street and near Ware Rd. or Bicentennial. I don't live in McAllen anymore and only go back about 1-2 times a year when I have the money for it but I have yet to find a bad/unsafe area on the North East side. That particular area also is where they are going crazy with development of upper-class, high quality residential areas. Just drive down 2nd Street or 10th Street between Nolana and Trenton and you can see all the top notch neighborhoods i.e. The Gables, Trenton Village, etc. Here's another site but mainly for homes http://www.rgv-realty.com
