"Wreaking the economic benefits?".

Do you have any idea what you actually wrote, or did you just string together some fancy-sounding words?

Maine, Vermont, or New Hampshire. Washington and Oregon are in the mix as well, but far behind the initial 3.

Both.

My turn. Does obsessive whining about wanting to leave Texas help your situation; or are you just looking for attention?

Does your obsessive idolization of the state make you feel any better?

The OP asked if anybody ever wants to leave. I answered his question.

As a native of the Texas hill country, La Coste (pop.397), I loved the one season as G-d intended. Regrettably, and unbelievably, my health forces me to move up north as the heat and humidity are too much with my asthma. I can't even take the dogs outside in back, much less walk them!

My family and I left Texas 2 years ago for my job. First to Phoenix and now California.

We will be coming back in the next month and will NEVER leave again until retired, and even then...maybe. People are nicer, slower pace (depending), less traffic, cheaper gas, cheaper electric, cheaper housing. We are native Texans and really really miss home.

My wife will probably get out and kiss the ground once we cross the state line.

Is it ''wreaking'' or ''reaping" benefits?' BTW getting hated on for showing 'em how to get-r-done @ work is a common ocurrence outside of the large cities here.

Anyway, yes I'd leave TX for the West Coast, Pac NW states (the green/wet part), Appalachian foot-hills area, maybe certain parts of Canada or Australia. A lot of people who never leave simply don't have the means/opportunities, or strongly fear the unfamiliar (and to some extent, life in general). However with an open mind, there are lots of interesting places out there to experience, many of which are more interesting than Texas, believe it or not.

However for me personally, #1 the money would need to be enough to maintain a certain quality of life. (Obviously some sacrifices would need to be made, esp out West.) I'd also need to be able to fly some family in w/o it being an issue. The timing, as it fits into the big 'life plan,' would also need to be proper. (If I were single now, and w/o any people depending on me you can bet I'd be outta here!)

But ultimately after the stint was over, I'd return back, where my family lives. So again I'd leave if the ''Ts & Cs'' were right, but Texas will always be ''home.''

getmeoutofhere - if you tried my neighborhood I think you would have a different opinion.

I also love spring thunderstorms - very invigorating to see the might of mother nature. I turn off the lights and just watch out the windows.

Even though I have almost 1 million airmiles, the longest I have been out of Texas was several three-week trips to Europe, a cruise and some trips to California. I am always glad to return home - I actually breathe a sigh of relief when I know we have crossed back over into Texas territory. If you are a Texan you just know.

I love seeing my hometown skyline "Big D" in the window of the plane, it makes me excited and proud.

Wreaking is what I intended; meaning people who are in Texas for work and hate it may see the benefits (work) as an affliction. I used a pun on words that didn't translate well.

I left Texas....but it was because my family doesn't live there and my employer told me that I'd have to move to the west coast to keep my job, which wasn't going to happen. Trust me, I'll be back to Texas.

It's not just the economic situation that makes Texas attractive. It's the people who make it a pleasant place to live.

I think the rest of the country knows that Texas has it's act together. I'm from Louisiana. We are trying....but you guys are really making difficult for us.
