Default Fort Hood area living

I had posted a question once last year when I had job possibilites in either San Antonio or Fort Hood. I finally got the position and I will be working in Fort Hood, starting in 2 months.

I am looking for an apartment or duplex near the base. As many on this forum write, I am looking for a safe and quiet place. Gated complex would be a plus. On my list, are keystone and brookside. I wouldn't mind driving about 20-30 minutes to get to work. I have read many of the postings but I welcme any feedback. Thanks in advance.

Speaking of Ft. Hood, how are the barracks' down there, I will be coming out there for about 2 weeks in June, and will have to be staying in the barracks. Also another important thing for us Marines, how is the chow hall? is there more than one?

dont know about the barracks, but the chow halls (DFAC's), i know there are quite a few-you are talking about the largest military installation in the US. also on post are two very large PX's with food courts-Warrior Way PX and Clear Creek PX on the east and west sides of post, respectively. both have food courts. there are also fast food places all around including Colters BBQ, the regular assortment. then there is C&H Hawaiian Grill on West Ft Hood on Clarke Road for Hawaiian plate lunches (very good). the Sportsman's Club has good breakfasts and lunches, there is also Club Ft Hood that has lunches and Sunday Brunch. you will find Einstein Bagels in the PX's and at Copeland Soldier's Center. there are a few ethnic places too-a Turkish sandwich shop off of Tank Battalion Avenue somewhere near Warrior Way PX. the list goes on and on.
hope you enjoy your TDY at Ft Hood. OORAH! Semper Fi!
