Help! Need info on Freeport, Lake Jackson, Angleton area
We're a Coast Guard family (w/two kids, one 7 1/2 and one 18 months old) and we'll be moving to the area of Freeport, Lake Jackson, Angleton -Brazoria County, I guess. My hubby will be stationed at Surfside Beach. So far, we've been told nicer family living is found in Angleton or Lake Jackson. I'd love any info you can give regarding churches, schools, good neighborhoods, ones to stay away from, what the surrounding cities are like and how far away from Surfide beach/Freeport area. Also, info on bike riding trails, golf courses, play grounds, gymnastics, hobby-type activities in the area will be helpful as well. Anything you can give to help us have a better understanding of the area is greatly appreciated
Thanks so much for taking time to help us out!

I used to live in Brazoria
I don't think I'd choose to live in Freeport, but Lake Jackson is, like, 5 minutes away practically. There are lots of nice places to live in Lake Jackson and Angleton. Angleton has more Cookie Cutter subdivisions now. Lake Jackson doesn't, but there are new homes, just more unique. My dad's cousin is an obstetrician in Lake Jackson. They live in Lake Jackson Farms. That's probably the swankiest neighborhood. My dad lived on Narcissus. That is also a pretty street, and nice neighborhood. I couldn't tell you where golf courses are, but I do know there is one on the highway between Brazoria and Lake Jackson. As for churches, there are many, and as far as I know, all nice. I don't know what religion you are, but just do a search. I don't know as much about Angleton. But the school districts are all good. I don't think there are biking trails, but as for gymnastics, hobbies, playgrounds...there are many. There is a neat park on Narcissus. It's pretty big and there used to be a rocket slide you could climb on. That whole area is growing, with lots of people now that work in Houston wanting to live on the river. Even little tiny Brazoria, I hear, is getting somewhat more sophisticated. I still have friends that live there. Dow is also one of the major employers in Freeport/Lake Jackson/Brazoria. I think Clute would be somewhere I wouldn't move to. When I was there, it was just small, poor, and not so nice.

Thanks, Roses :)
Thanks so much for the info - and the time it took ya.
Yes, I think L.J. seems very appealing - over the others.
I did hear Huisache area in L.J. isn't so great - is that true?
Our budget for a home to rent is about $12-$1300 max. We'd thought we might buy, but they may be just too much to deal with at once. Anyway, is there an area you would suggest over another?
Also, I've been told that homes for rent/lease are on short supply over there. Is that correct? I wonder if that's because school is still in session?
As for churches, a Christian church or non-denom. Know any like that in L.J. with good reps? do you know the trick to finding what's up for lease? What is the local paper called?
Thanks, again, so much!

It looks like the Brazosport Facts covers that area.
In general, a good resource for newspapers is www.dailyearth.com. You can do a ctrl-F search on key words (like Jackson) and find what you are looking for, usually. Sometimes you have to look a little more carefully.

You might be right about Huisache area. If you drive down Yaupon (?) There are several nice neighborhoods off of that road. I'm sorry I don't know the names of them. Check the Brazosport facts for more info. They also have a website.
