.. Have you gone to your nearest job force center or looked at the skills need in local newspapers. Most people in a area know what the skills that are needed in their area. Its kind of like deciding a a course of study for college ;you need to do some home work to decide if you plan on staying in that area. Because no skill or the wrong skill means no demand. You want to be in the 90% that have a job because its in demand. If ex-military definely look into law enforcement as they give veterans a advanatage in most areas.

Previous to the stimulus money for unemployment..there was a 13+7 weeks extension by the Government in addition to your original 13.

What Perry rejected was part of the stimulus plan that would require Texas to include part-time in unemployment benefits permanently and up the payroll taxes to cover it.

Several states besides Texas have rejected that part of the stimulus.

Once again a Republican has f*cked the working man !
Rick Perry has rejected the stimulas extension because it "burden texas companies" with a higher employment tax. Well WTF about the Texas working people who've been out of work for a year or more because of the crap that last Texas Governor did when he got to Washington ??
Time to look out for the VOTER, not the campaign contributor !!

True some people just sit around on their ass and do nothing. However, when you have worked for MANY years and then you are suddenly laid off or just plain fired... what are you to do? people have families, bills, etc. SInce you obviously have a SAFE and SECURE "CAREER" how about you request that your employer hire the people who are ACTIVELY searching for work. Since companies are downsizing all the way down to ssomeone such as a secretary that make 1/4 of what an unessential VP or other person makes in their company, what the hell do you expect. I AM NOT THE SECRETARY, just a point! You must be the reason so many educated and financial savvy people are losing their homes, credit, cars, etc... Your type of thinin is obviously the reason for this ERROR, you figure a way to fix it. True, an employed person means more $ than an unemployed, but what, you just leave an american out to rot away with the scum? [SMELL THE ROSES, YOUR president BUSH did this... and MY PRESIDENT MR. BARAK H. OBAMA, is simply trying to fix it. Get a college loan you end up not being able to pay back because you employer wants to save his own ass and the only option you have is UNEMPLOYMENT... THEN TALK!

Hmm..I dont think you're from Texas.

By the way, if you overtax companies, they will continue to hire NO ONE and lay everyone off to save their companies. Or they will pass the tax down to the consumer. The reason why many people are moving to Texas right now is because Texas stands up for business owners and guess what, business owners who are doing well HIRE PEOPLE.

Read what HappyTexan wrote:
"What Perry rejected was part of the stimulus plan that would require Texas to include part-time in unemployment benefits permanently and up the payroll taxes to cover it.

Stop relying on the government to do everything for you. In the future, instead of buying that brand new vehicle with no money down on a 72 month loan or buying more house than what you could truly afford or buying things you dont need, why not build a nest egg for the very real possibility that you COULD IN FACT GET LAID OFF. There are alot of people who I definitely feel empathy for, but there are many more who have made very stupid financial decisions and now get mad at OTHERS when they have been laid off. I work at a financing company and get to see the stupid financial decisions people make EVERY DAY and then they get expect OTHER PEOPLE to do something about THEIR stupid decision. Planning/saving for the future is what separates the wealthy from the rest and this economy (and the people in it) provide bountiful evidence for that little simple tidbit of personal finance 101 that many people seemed to have skipped.

Go read that section of the stimulus..that will put states on the hook to fund unemployment for part time workers at the end of two years.

That stimulus does not give you an unemployment allowance open-ended.
There were 2 extensions to unemployment from the Federal government that had no strings attached.

You people need to get your heads out of the sand. Barrack Hussein Obama is not going to save you, he is going to own & control you. You need to get off your rear and stop wanting and help yourself for once. No one owes anybody anything, you have to work for it. Unemployment benefits are only suppose to be temporary not permanent. This country was built off of sweat and determination to never give up.

Then can you help me find work? Because my employment specialist can't, and we've been looking for 7 months. Every single place we've been to says they're not hiring because of the economy.
