Best time to look for rentals in Edinburg, TX
I recently accepted an Assistant Professor position at UTPA in Edinburg, TX and I am curious what the best time to look for rentals is. I am not planning on moving until mid to late July, but in the college town I currently live in if you don't find your place in March it becomes very difficult to find anything nice. When is the best time to look for a July or August occupation date on a rental of a 3 to 4 BR house?
Also, I have been looking at Craigslist to find a place, is that the best place to look? Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks.

recrossler, you might also try apartmentratings.com, rent.com, or apartmentguide.com. Best of luck to you!

Ian,
Thanks for the sites. They are good for finding apartments. We are hoping to find a house with a yard. Kids and a dog make that a nice thing to have.

Keep in mind that you might want to check out McAllen, Mission, and Pharr as well. The cities all run together. Look at the local paper online at themonitor.com. You can check the classifieds. Welcome to the valley!

I have read that North McAllen, Edinburg, and Mission are decent places to live (very important). Is Pharr also classified with these other three? What about as you go North out of town from Edinburg?

Yeah North McAllen and Edinburg is nice. I live in North McAllen, like 10 minutes from Edinburg. Don't just limit yourself to Edinburg ,hmm okay.

I have a very nice home in South McAllen. There are good areas all over. You just have to look around.

You might consider contacting a Realtor down there. Rentals are often managed by realtors. At the very least, they could give you some time lines to keep in mind since they are very familiar with the market.

Thanks for the information everyone.
Kibby - Do you have any recommendations for a realtor that manages as well as sells residential properties? I could randomly start calling but if you have someone in mind that may be a good place to start. Feel free to send me a direct message if you don't want to post that on this board.

Just don't wait til the end of summer. Years ago when I lived in the Valley, the school districts would recruit teachers from "up north" and all the good rentals were gone by August, for sure.
