We are moving to Amarillo in June and are looking to buy a house or a townhome in a safe residential area closer to the medical facilities.

What are the nice residential areas closer to the hostpitals.

The neighborhoods around the hospitls/medical district are the nicest/safest neighborhoods in town.......south and southwest and western part of town. There is very little crime in that whole area and there are lots of apartments/condo's and houses within a very short commuting distance.

The Woodlands in NW Amarillo is very close to the hospitals and very nice and safe. Most of SW Amarillo (including Greenways, Colonies, Sleepy Hollow, City View, Windsor) is very nice and safe, and only slightly farther away. Nowhere will you be more than 15 minutes from work even during the busiest traffic.

Do you have school-age children?

We plan to start family in there so would not have school age children but we would definitely need access to good day care around and good elementary schools in a few years..

and later you ask about Southlawn.

Most of these neighborhoods are a mixed bag. Of course there may be some nice houses, and most of the people there will be very nice neighbors. But they are probably not as good as the neighborhoods I suggest above. (This is mostly due to their proximity to nearby bad neighborhoods.)

The Bivins neighborhood (and Wolflin as well) has some very nice old houses. I actually like it a lot, but it is pretty close to some rougher areas. Of course the nice old houses command a premium too. And they can be a lot of work.

You might check out Puckett, in addition to the ones I mentioned above in my earlier post. (Also "South Park", which may or may not be the same as Windsor mentioned above. I'm not sure about that neighborhood definition.)

Glendale abuts I-27, so it is less desirable, but honestly I'd have to take a look at it --I've never driven through it so I'm not sure.

It's not going to be as good as South Park / Windsor which are adjacent to it to the west.
