White Castle and Hardee's, Lonestar2007?
I think not!
Not by a long shot.
This Cape Cod Yankee girl will always dream about the burgers at Kincaid's in Fort Worth.
They occupy the most exalted position on my chart of the most heavenly burgers on Earth.
I have searched for their equals elsewhere, and I'm afraid Kincaid's will always come out ahead.
(There is always hope, however!)

Hardee's isn't good, is it? My impression is Hardee's isn't a good place. I think Hardee's has a lot to be desired no matter if you're a yankee or a southerner.

Hi, Frodo2008,
I haven't been to a Hardee's for quite some time, and there are none that I know of here in Massachusetts.
I remember going to one in Florida, however, and the food wasn't that great.
And White Castle? Don't even get me started.
There are a few places that make pretty good burgers around here, but, in my opinion, nothing even compares to the steaks and burgers you can find in Texas.
Especially the burgers at Kincaid's.
Texas is full of great restaurants, from the "lowly" to the finer dining establishments, as I'm sure you are aware.
I miss Texas; it has its faults, as does every other state, but it has such a unique charm and is full of friendly, fascinating people.

Yeah Texas does have a lot of good restaurants. Houston has a lot of good restaurants. That's why Houston got the fattest city in America 3 years in a row a few years back. Houston has great restaurants and the obesity to prove it.

I've never eaten at Hardee's. I've seen it in Austin or Houston I think. It doesn't really appeal to me so I haven't even tried it. When it comes to burgers the chains usually aren't very good. It's usually the mom and pop places that are the best and this doesn't just apply to burgers. Most of the chain restaurants aren't that good.

Every time I hear White Castle it makes me think of Harold and Kumar Going to White Castle. That was a pretty good movie. White Castle brings positive memories to my mind since I always think of the movie.

I hardly think food chains or any restaurants would really be a "necessary" in choosing where to live or something that would make or break a state as far as a rating would go. That just blows my mind.

We do have some of the fattest cities in the country...

but for the record this is a report by a single state senator (who I've met and who is an admirable man), but it definitely does not show that Texas is the worst state in the Union.

It shows areas where we are deficient (more specifically, areas where some very low income parts of the state drag the state as a whole down) and suggests that the Lege put some serious effort into fixing them. However, because we live in a state where we try to tax as little as possible, these don't get taken care of.

His report neglects ALL of the reasons why Texas is better than other states. And our financial solvency is absolutely one of them.

Yeah I agree Texas is one of the best states in the union. Texas does a good job with her finances. Unlike a state on the west coast that always has a huge budget deficit because the state government there doesn't know how to manage money. Texas sometimes has a surplus when a lot of other states have deficits. There are a lot of good things about Texas and restaurants is one of them. It's because of those good restaurants that a lot of Texans eat too much and are overweight.

I visited Costa Rica 15 years ago... everyone including my travel agent said it was a horrible scary place... I wish I had kept my mouth shut and continued the lie! Now people from the US are crawling all over Costa Rica! Lets let believe Texas is horrible... maybe they will stay where they are!
