I'm working with a Texan who openly admits to everyone on site that he used to beat his kids in the face repeatedly just to toughen them up, he's adamant that it was the right thing to do and now that they've grown up "no-one messes with them cause they're so tough" (amazing what a bit of child abuse will do for a kid).
He's a high school dropout and only survives in our company by creating fear in the people around him - i.e. he's got the smallest amount of power and blatenly abuses it to threaten other workers.
As I've only met one Texan (Thank g*d!) I'm interested at how representative this is of Texan's as a whole.

He had to have posted that as a joke. Nobody seriously would ask such a silly question.

The wording in red is such a dead giveaway that your statement is so not for real.

Yeah he was just making silly statements to get Texans riled up. It seems to not have worked very well.

I'll chime in here. Bloggers are nothing more than professional bitching sessions. Personally, I prefer Oklahoma City, but not because I don't like Texas. It's just where I am from and want to leave my legacy. Texas is a state that Texans are proud of, and Texas deserves credit for many accomplishments that are outside the tunnel vision of some whiny blogger. Texas has set the standard for free enterprise and is a shining example of how to be proud of where you are from.
Texas, like Oklahoma, has its ups and downs. But there is no such thing as a utopia. That is a reality for any state. Anyone who believes otherwise is living a fool's paradise. As a proud Okie, I was glad to get back to Texas after my trip to Niagara Falls/Buffalo, NY. The scenery was beautiful, but the cities were ugly and the people were not so nice.
Some people need to look in the mirror before they speak.

I can't imagine myself reading blogs. By and large, they are on a level with the worst of tabloid journalism. The title of this thread is similar to a headline one would see in a supermarket checkout line. Why bother?

Austin is awful - they pride themselves on being weird when what they really are is crazy and pitiful. I've not been impressed at all with the place. There are more aggressive panhandlers and angry homeless people there than you can shake a stick at. The place is so full of dread-locked hippies stumbling around, especially near the university, you'd think you'd happened upon Haight-Ashbury in '68. It's a city of extreme in-your- face politics - once my husband saw topless women walking around with signs saying that if men are allowed to go shirtless, so should women. A friend of my husband, a cop who refuses to ever set food in Austin again, saw a bearded transvestite prostitute standing on a corner wearing a gigantic overstuffed bra over his dress. The place is ridiculous. I don't recommend it for anyone who has values or is wanting to raise a family.

I side with Austin on this one speckled_hen. Homelessness and crazy people who dont hurt anyone are a byproduct of this society we've created. You should see them every day. Whats the alternative to have them abused by the police and forced out of your sight so you can have some white picket delusion. Grow up.
If you dont like seeing it then I suggest you support politicians who offer real solutions for the homeless and for the mentally challenged. Aka anyone but a Republican.
