I'd buy the house I am in now (2,300 sqft in SW Austin) and have enough left over to pay property taxes for the next 4 or 5 years....

Land if you can call it that, is of course where the majority of the cost is. But the improvement is higher here as well. But, I see where you are coming from.

Of course, you should post this in the CA forum as well, and see what answers you get there .

Seems most Californians unless they are lucky enough to live coastal want to leave...and the rest posting there are not from there and are as clueless as most non-natives about Cali, think it is all sand and surf...(and Trader-Joe's and In-n-Out).
Besides $300,000 will not buy you anything in Cali...nothing you would want to live in anyway!

Cali has way too many problems. Everything there is high (including half of the state's residents, te he he, just joshin' ), the governer is an old actor who can bearly speak English, and at least in Texas, the chances of being caught in an earthquake are waaaaay lower.

I choose the Lone Star State.

Definitely Texas. Yea CA has its beaches and mountains and all that other stuff but once you get to Texas you will find something else to do. Perhaps hiking, bike riding etc. I think Texas is a much better place to live simply by the fact that the cost of living is cheaper and also the quality of life down there.

Good Idea. I see the poll is leaning towards Texas, but this is the Texas Thread.

I was raised in northern Calif. It wouldn't be completely out of the question to ever go back there. I love Mt Shasta, Mt Lassen, Lake Shasta all all of the beautiful scenery that the northern part offers. However, HANDS DOWN right now, Texas is my goal! Texas or BUST! If I could just get things moving along here in Arizona so that I can get OUT OF HERE! LOL!
Not only is Texas' property more reasonable than California/Arizona, but the people are more down to earth and overall quality of life is much more to the standard that I am looking for to finish raising my kids!
Great Poll!
P.S I see Texas is even winning in the Calif. thread as well lol

I have lived in California all my life and can't stand the mountains and the beaches. I like a good in- and -out burger but not enough to stay in Calif.

Now I live in the desert and can't stand that either. Brown, brown, brown. No green just dirt and cactus.

Texas sounds like a good change for me.
