Default Texas Winter Weather

Greetings fellow Texans!

I was just wondering if it is me, or has anyone else noticed that Texas often records some of its coldest weather and biggest snowfalls (by Texas standards, at any rate! LOL) in late February thru early March...?

I read somewhere that Texas snowfall always comes after a sizable hurricane.

It really depends on what area of the state you're talking about. I doubt Houston gets much snow in January, let alone March ;-). Typically though the wettest winter month for places that do receive snow (like Colorado) is March while the coldest month is usually January.

Yes, this is very true. I am from Wichita Falls, and it has just always seemed to me that for some odd reason, the most memorable snowfalls and cold snaps have occured in the early part of March. Perhaps though, it is because the "lateness" of it all MAKES it more memorable.

Default One of Texas' Rare Blessings!!!!!!

Ahhh, memories of the most wonderful snowfall I've seen in the 30 years I've been in central Texas. I think it snowed 9 inches. Seems like it was yesterday, but it was 27 years ago....delightful.

It was on January 13, 1982 and as you can see by the last photo below, the next day was sunny and sunglasses were needed. The glare was mighty bright. It was all so beautiful, and I wish it did this every single Winter and many times. My kids had so much fun building snowmen, snow forts, and making snow angels. On the last photo, one can't really see it too well, but my son rolled a mighty huge snowball.

I can see the huge snowball! Oh these are great photos.. you lucky duck to have gotten that much snow. This Dec we got some snow here, and it was coming down in big beautiful flakes at 1 in the morning. I thought come sun up I will go and get some photos.. Yeah, right! Come sun up all was left was the tops of the bushes had a dusting. Now what you had there was a LOT of snow. What fun for the kids.

It was amazing that Texas did get a little snow as far south as you are. It was so great in 1982. Of course, we've gotten more since that year, but not heavily like the photos depict.

Yep! It snowed twice in one week up here last March. The year before it snowed in April. So...Winter isn't necessarily over!

Thank goodness for that. What follows Winter in Texas is not fun.
