- The wind bringing the wonderful smell of rain just before a long-awaited storm.
- The most beautiful sunsets setting over the plains and mesas.
- Barbecueing on the lakeside while the evening sun casts an orange glow on everything.
- Wildflowers blooming in the late spring in Palo Duro Canyon. Almost every color you can imagine is there.
- Again with the full moon and bright stars, except I think of them as at my great-grandparents farm, with the windmill turning and a cool moist breeze.
Loved reading this one, Westerner!

Windmills and wildflowers and full moons and bright stars? And the heavenly scents of BBQ? Cain't get any better than that, my friend!

The beautiful sunsets.

The sky at night regardless if it is lit up brightly with a big full moon or completely black with it's wide array of stars shining like millions of diamonds.

The clear deep blue Texas sky that seems to go on forever.

The sounds, sights and smells of a small town rodeo.

The far off whistle of a freight train rolling through.

The sweet smell of honeysuckle in full bloom.

A big, bright beautiful rainbow after a storm.
So very well done, LoneStar! All of it, but especially those. Like the diamonds in the sky....

3. the brightest stars in the sky ~ sitting outside on a clear evening in the peace and quiet of my backyard absolutely in awe of the wonder of such beauty ~ The city folks just don't know what they're missing.

4. duplicate mention, but Mr. Moon ... He is often the brightest of orange and looks so close to us. I love that guy.

5. watching and listening to birds chirping ever so happily and watching the baby calves behind my property merrily romping in the pasture ~ one is all white, adorable

This is what Texas is about to me.
Before signing off for the night, I meant to tell you what a pleasure it was to read this one, CC!

Default Texas Portrait

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. If you and I were to describe Texas, it would actually take more than a thousand. In fact, it might take a million.

So, with that said, here are a few thoughts.

Sitting down to a huge, wood-broiled porterhouse steak with a baked potato and sweet iced tea.

Taking in a sunrise on a prairie farm in West Texas.

Bluebonnets on the side of a rural highway.

Exploring the awe and wonder of Big Bend National Park.

Seeing the views of Houston's or Dallas' skylines and absorb each one's majestic beauty.

Barbecue cooked in an open pit.

It's stopping and snapping a pic of an East Texas pine tree.

Thunderstorms approaching and quickly moving through.

Or maybe there's a small pump in a West Texas oil field, with the jack rotating.

Seeing a West Texas sunset disappear into the Davis Mountains.....or beyond a windmill near Lubbock.

Listening to a lovely Texas woman with tight jeans talk with a deep accent and she says, "Y'all."

Experiencing a plate of Gulf Coast seafood across from the beachfront.

Taking a drive through picturesque scenery worthy of a Picasso painting. And that's no matter what part of the state I'm in.

Putting on a Cowboy hat.

Enchiladas, rice, and beans on the Riverwalk with a mariachi band playing next to you.

Seeing a sign that's a huge reminder of what we're all about. Welcome to Texas. Tejas means friendly.

Listening to country music on a small-town front porch swing.

Hearing the Texas Longhorn band performing "The Eyes of Texas".

Now ain't it great to be alive in the great state of Texas?

All of the above, plus the smell after it has stopped raining....nothing like it.

I miss the rhythmic creak of an old windmill.....it's great to fall asleep by....then they had to go replace it with an electric pump.

You also can't beat the stars in an inky navy-blue sky.

Wow, Jezer! Thanks so much for sharing your neat pics!! The first shot looks exactly like the road from Alamogordo (NM) to El Paso....mountains and blooming yuccas! I love it!

I'm headed to Ft Davis-Big Bend in April, after almost 10 years away. I can't wait to see it again!
