Smile McAllen Airport to South Padre via bus or taxi?

Is it possible to travel between the two without a car? I am planning a trip to the beach but I'm not going to be able to rent a car and I must fly into MFE. Thanks for any help!

No. SPI is probably an hour's drive from McAllen. It would cost you a fortune.

I find it hard to believe that there are no shuttle services or even a bus line(greyhound) going to the island.

I seem to recall that there was a bus that would take you from SPI to Matramoros so I'd have thought there was something from the nearest airport.

Check this out-

McAllen Express Transit (MET) - Service Providers - City of McAllen, TX

I had a quick look but couldn't find anything suitable.

Um, when people go to the Island, they either fly into Brownsville or Harlingen. McAllen is quite far from it. That would be like me wanting to vacation in Corpus and deciding to fly into the Harlingen airport. I don't mean to sound rude but if you can't rent a car for whatever reason, then you're going to have to find a private company to take you back and forth to the Island and pay whatever they charge.

there is a bus station in downtown mcallen. you could find a greyhound or a valley transit bus that will take you to at least brownsville (not sure about the island) where you could find a shuttle. but they do have bus service between those cities and everything in between.
