Default Possible relocation to Caldwell texas area. HELP

Hi all,
There is a very good possibility that i will be relocating to Caldwell Texas area. Can anyone give me some information on apartment/home rentals in the area. Wont be buying right away so need to rent for a year.

A nice quiet place is needed. No Kids, and just the wife and I, so a 2 bedroom would be perfect.

A link to a local newspaper would help.

Thanks

Caldwell, eh? I lived there for a year back in the mid 90's while the wife finished school at A&M. We rented a 2/1 apartment from an old lady for $325/month. I'm sure rent has gone up, but it won't be high compared to B/CS or most other large cities. I can't remember the name of the local paper, but you can probably Google it. The town itself is ok. Nothing great nor terrible about it. Given the choice I would live in or closer to B/CS, but I can't cuss Caldwell.

What could you possibly be moving to Caldwell for?

Well I might be getting a job in the Lyons area. I have been researching the Caldwell and Somerville areas. Not much on google for newspapers.

I would like to be within driving distance of Lyons and would like my wife to be able to find a job that does not include to much driving, as we will be very new to the area.

I picked Caldwell because we are avid golfers and they have a course in town. But I will keep my options open.

Thanks for the reply.

Hmm, you are correct when you say the "Lyons area", because there is not really a town there. It is pretty and somewhat remote. COL is not high and land is reasonable.

Look at http://www.burlesoncounty.com/ for some info on Calwell.

Somerville has a small clinic, a bank or two and some gas stations if your wife is looking for such work. Caldwell has a small hospital, school and some restaurants for employment. Caldwell is sort of a suburb of B/CS. Many folks find it is cheaper to live there and commute to B/CS.

You will find several golf courses in B/CS. Lots of college students who like to play, so the city and country clubs provide ample space to chase a white ball.

I can't remember if Caldwell has a paper or not, but the B/CS paper is the "Eagle". Google "Bryan, TX Eagle" and it should come up. They might have some rental listings for Caldwell.

I must admit that curiosity has got the better of me: I still can't figure out what you will do in the Lyons area. And where are you moving from?

Good luck with the search.

Rick

Thanks Rick for all the information.

I have applied to relocate to the Post Office in Lyons as Postmaster. I have family in the Harker Heights area and there have not been many Post Offices that have come open in the area, but Lyons is within a short drive. I would be able to see my family on a more frequent basis.

I am located in Wyoming Illinois as the Postmaster. I am also quite sick and tired of the long COLD winters here in Illinois and have finally convinced my wife that we could play golf and enjoy the warmer weather in Texas almost all year. As a golfer I HATE SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have not been offered the transfer yet, but have been researching the area and with the help of some very nice people like yourself I have been getting some great information and advice, just in case.

Thanks again.
Dale

Dale, you are welcome. Harker Heights is just a few minutes from me. Maybe 15 miles west on 190. Small world!

I understand your reasons for wanting to move to Lyons (hopefully). As a young couple you will really enjoy the atmosphere around B/CS. TX A&M is a big college with lots of activity. I did not go there as a student, but I enjoyed the lifestyle. Lots of places to eat and things to do. I wish you the best of luck with your job search.

I remember chatting with the postmaster in Little River-Academy (just 2 miles from my house) about these jobs and he echoed your statement. There is not much turnover in that field.

I honestly did not know that Lyons had a Post Office.

So you hate snow and cold weather? You are moving to the right place. It will only get below freezing a handful of times each winter. Actually, tee times are hard to get from Dec. - Feb. because it is usually so nice outside. Maybe a light jacket and you are set. It will be very hot and humid. That is just life in Central Texas. You get used to it and adapt like everyone else.

Take care.

Rick

Rick,
Well I did not get the job in Caldwell, but I have applied to the Holland Post office, for relocation. Any insight as you are so close? Thanks

Rental houses or apartments?

Hi, Dale. Well, I would say that between the two towns/areas, I would rather live in Holland than Caldwell. Holland is also very small, but it is just a few miles south of Temple and, oh, say 10 miles or so east of I-35. Not a long drive to Harker Heights. Maybe 20-30 minutes. I've only seen one small apartment complex in Holland, and from the looks of it I would not suggest living there. A rent house would be a better choice. Check out the Temple Daily Telegram classifieds for possible rentals. Most people in Holland/Academy/Bartlett put houses in the Temple paper. If you can't find a house in Holland keep Academy in mind as there is only a few miles between towns.

Salado has a golf course (Mill Creek Golf course) that looks nice. I have not played it but I've never heard any bad words about it. Salado is just a few miles from Holland. Temple has one municipal course and one "country club" course (Wildflower CC). Several golf communities are cropping up on the far north side of Austin and around Georgetown. You should be able to satisfy your golf needs without too much trouble.

Keep us posted on your job status.

Rick

Hope someone can help me with this, as keep getting the round-a-bout.
Moving to Caldwell Tx, but on a small lake just outside of town. Tried the city of Caldwell and although very friendly, did not know.

Anyone have any idea what company supplies power to the area? Called Blue Bonnet and Intergy, both said they do not serve the lake area just off FM 908. May have to go knock on neighbors doors to find out, but wanted to get it turned on ahead of time.

The area is, for me, very quite and peaceful looking and so far the people I have met have been extremely friendly. Kinda' like the small town I grew up in, so my hopes are high.
