Default Relocating to College Station

Hi All,
My husband and I will be relocating to CS. We will be staying in CS for definitely another three years with a small possibility ( right now ) to extend our stay for another year or so. We have a one and half year old and are looking for places to stay and daycare.

We were so confused over if we should buy a house or rent one. We did all the math and looks like we might break even if we buy a house or townhome for 100K and then sell it in three years.

Can anyone suggest some good neighborhood in college station where we can find a single family house/ townhome/ rowhome in that budget.

We are also looking for apartments/ townhomes for rent. Can anyone suggest some places. Our budget is around $650. Is that on the lower end. We would prefer to stay in some residential neighborhood with not many students living around.

Thanks

Hi, I am a graduate of Texas A&M (class of 2007).

I lived in the Doux Chene apartments on Harvey Mitchell and Valley View. These are pretty nice and affordable apartments (less than 600/month) and not too many students. They have a good maintanence crew there that always responded quickly to any problems. I would also check out some of the duplex type homes on San benito/ San saba around Welsh. I don't know what they rent for though. if you want to stay away from College kid dominated complexes stay away from Marion Pugh (treehouse, callaway house, melrose, meadows point complexes) and wellborn rd around campus. Let me know if I can give you any more info on the area, it is very nice there.

Let me be the first to welcome you to CS... Howdy!! I am class of 2010 and LOVE it here. I hope you will to.

As far as housing... I have heard that renting and buying are pretty much even as this point in time. I don't know prices but I do know that if you are wanting to stay away from students and a nice area, then South College Station is where you should look. There are several very nice subdivisions, but I am not sure of any names. There is a very nice subdivison called Castlegate (very pricey though) so I think the closer you can stay to there, the better it will be. Especially with a one and a half year old.

As far as daycare... this is what I know about. I currently work at A&M UMC Weekday School (Northgate area, just North of campus) and we are considered to be at the top. St Thomas is the other daycare that is towards the top. When looking, the waiting list is the key. If there is no waiting list, then it is probably not a good daycare. Because of this, I would get on a waiting list ASAP. When are you planning to move to College Station?

Good luck and let me know if there is anything else you would like to know!!
